Willem, it's an unofficial workaround that's left over from Google Picasa after they switched to Google Photos.
It's not supported so it may or may not go away at any time and break the links.

Microsoft did pretty much the same thing with their Skydrive/Onedrive when they broke existing image links, then removed the ability to get a right-click image link from the page.
They also changed the site so direct links wouldn't work even if you managed to find it.
At this exact moment in time, the image embedding, sizing, and sharing option is semi-unbork'd but that could change the next time some engineer gets a better idea.
This image from Onedrive required me to create two separate links.
The </> Embed option created a link that I set to 600 x 400 to use with the site's [I M G] tags.
The [/^ Share option made a clickable link for the [U R L] tags that will open a larger image in Onedrive instead opening of a file download prompt.

Easy ...went to your link right click mouse on pic select "copy image address" go to post here...look for mountain icon above message box..click it and then "paste" inside the link box..then saveLeave a comment:
