YES. I had my bike in for service and the trany seized up on the guys work bench. hoped off that bench and bounced off his tool box. I did the repairs myself that winter and it was 2nd gear seized to the shaft.Originally posted by Targetman
Does that mean the "gear" for second in the trans was seized?

Thanks. I wanted to paint it the stock red but did and still don't have any part that is red for a match up. So I went with what was called medium garnet red. It is a little too deep as compared to the stock color that Yamaha used in 78 and 79 butOriginally posted by JonhDough
Wow very nice bike. maybe i should paint mine red also. Good job man.
Red dose look good on these bikes and dose turn heads.

Rebuild
Thanks for the thorough chronicling of your rebuild- I read every post and checked out every picture. One day I'd like to do that to my 81 XS1100 special... however it would take me many times as long as I'd be figuring it out as I went.
Cheers,

Re: Rebuild
Thanks John .. I took over 100 pics during the rebuild but couldn't post then all. I really enjoy the wrenching part of the sport as much as I like the riding part. With older bikes the wrenching part is important. You'll learn your way around your bike prety fact. The 1100 is an easy bike to work on and a joy to own.Originally posted by John LM
