          I have never attempted to locate the kickstart lever on the bike and CSMNL does not show how it is installed. Ill check utube and see if there is a video how to install it.

              On your 79 Special, the small bracket that holds the part of the kickstarter where you place your foot should be already installed under the battery box on the left side of the bike. As for holding the other end of the lever to the frame on the right side of the bike, a metric bolt of the correct size and a washer could be used instead of that hard to find cap/wing nut assembly.

                Thank you all for your information. I will get a bolt and washer that will do for now. Im still going to look for the bracket. I have had this bike for 42 years and it is in almost mint condition. The kick start lever situation only came up recently as i found the lever in a box of other stuff tat has been sitting for years!
