Distance from Buffalo NY is 838 miles 14 hr 20 min. How much furtheraway are you?

While you could do it in a day or two, It would be more fun to take longer and do some fun back roads north of Suches.

Some of the best Motorcycle roads ion the continnent are here and XSives come back year after year from as far as MO PA VA NY

Great food at TWO also. All the snow has long since melted from year before last (none last year). Leaves should be starting to change by then. Temps good for a Jacket.

Your 650 maxim would be just GREAT on the tight curves and winding roads. I should mention wolf pen gap rd, the twistiest rd in GA, is about 1 /4 mile from the lodge. Deals gap or the cherohala parkway are within a day ride.
      I do have some pictures.

Sleep on it , and sweet dreams.

      Hi Brent,
I am about 2 hours from Buffalo. I would need 2 days to get there. we'll keep watering this seed and see if it grows into anything this year

        Toronto to TWO

        Phil,

If you can afford the time, US 19 goes from Erie, PA to GA 180 which takes you to TWO. I have done this ride on my XS650 and I promise you would love it! It should be a little less than 2400 miles round trip. Mine was 2200 miles Atlanta to Jamestown, NY. Get out your maps and see if this seed is going to sprout!

          Hi Marty & Brent,
Must have landed on fertile soil or you guys have been fertilizing it The usual question of time and money. I have had a look at the map and am thinking Hwy219 out of Buffalo runs straight South past Elkins WV (been there) As you know i do not like the Interstate for hours on end. Must get another map as this one does not show enough detail. Mapquest proving difficult to get it off the Interstate.
TWO site says no reservation required to camp. Does Rally require pre- registration?

No preregistration is required for this rally. It does have its own forum.

Hook up to US 19 from 219. I'm not looking at a map, but I believe they intersect in WV. I look forward to seeing you again soon!

Amost took that route back from Pineville rally. Didn't because I had the trailer and didn't know how slow it would be. So you recommend it?.... (for future reference)

                    Correction re: snow

N GA TWO did get about 4 inches of snow last year that was on ground for 6 days. (I did not see it since I live about 70 miles south and am not in MOUTAINS.)

                      Suches ride

I'm really embarrased to ask this, since it is a XS forum, but today when I started my '79 XS 1100, it caught fire. I think I may still have a fuel and/or oil leak. I have been working on this bike for months. I found it in a barn where it had been sitting since 1987. The owner is still doing time in prison and his wife (now that's loyalty) sold it to me for $200.00. I've been working on it for about 3 months and it's real close to being done, but if I don;t have it ready by rally time, would it be OK if I rode my restored 1980 Honda CB 750 to the rally instead? It looks great and is very dependable. I'd really like to make this rally, but if it's only for Yamaha XS bikes, I understand.

                      Thanks,

                      Joel

If you own or owned a vintage Japanese motorcycle you are certainly eligable to attend.

Some of us who now have newer motorcycles, even American made 21st century motorcycles, attend because we have lots of good friends we have ridden with over the years who we like to meet up with.

Oh, and the roads there are not too bad...

So is your 1980 Honday a vintage Japanese motorcycle? Or did you own a vintage one in the past and are you friendly?

Then come on down! Or up...

                          Rally

I own the 1980 CB 750. Believe, it or not, I also found this one sitting in a barn since 1985. The owner was deceased and the widow sold it to me for a pittance ( I am a 3rd Degree Mason, and her husband was one as well, so our lodge make sure she is well taken care of), and rode it home from Alabama to Georgia. It started right up, even with 16 year old gas and oil. All I did was buy a new battery. I've had it tuned up since, and it needs a new transmission, but it is perfectly rideable as is. You just have to start out in 2nd gear, because it slips out of first. I am working on it as we speak. That's better than the 1100 catching fire!

                                Deals gap, Patrolled

Its true, Police are in Deals Gap, Hwy 129 in TN between the NC border and the dam.

Yesterday, Aug 18, I saw many police sitting along the TN side of deals gap. State patrol, sherrifs. 3 or 4 cars and a kawi chips style bike together. Another beside a camera crew, more beside another camera crew, one on the side by himself. I did not see any bikes stopped, though many riders were giving hand signals.

Other roads seemed to be as usual. Small towns and some traffic duty on major highways.

Hwy 28 between the smokie mtn xpressway is still great 55mph limit and mostly 25mph curves, very little even close to straight. No 15 or 20 mph curves, and places where autos can and do pull off to let faster traffic pass.

Weather in N GA mtns & Smokie Mtn Nat Park was cool enough for a light jacket, even near mid day. Warmer at lower altitudes.

                                CU in the fall,
