Well, I ain't going to make it.

I had 4 bones fused and a plate put in my right wrist last April and have been doing real good with it until a few weeks ago, when I started to get some unusual pains in it. I went to the Dr. today and it is now in a cast that won't let me bend the wrist at all. And at least for the next 6 to 8 weeks. Seems like I’ve been using it to much and have pulled apart two of the bones that had started to fuse and they want to stabilize it.
I rode the bike this afternoon, and it is a real pain to have to move the whole arm and shoulder to move the throttle, and no fine control at all!

Oh well, If I’d have made it, it probably would have rained all weekend. Now, maybe it won’t at all.

You'll be the first to arrive. It's a strange and wonderful part of the world.

I've been there once before last fall, but I had just gotten the bike, it had been sitting for who knows how long, GUTLESS as heck... would have to downshift and keep it about 7 grand or you would slow down going up hills, it looked just about as good as it was running, and every time you pulled up to a stop and pulled in the clutch, the motor would rev up over 4 grand. Still had a great time though!

I have really been looking forward to this rally since it was first brought up,,,,, but,,, looking at the weather that's going on right now (10:22 am), and what's forcast, I think I'm feeling sory for all of you.

At least I've got a XS750 rear end to get ready to put on my XJ.

Not a sissy, just practical.
Last time I rode through western Arkansas, I got it by such ferocious rain that my rain suit did as bout as much good as mosquito netting. Everything in my 'supposedly waterproof luggage was soaked. Took almost two hours at a Laundromat to get dry!

Knock knock knockin' on heavens door...

I made it back home in one piece. I just stayed easy on it, and made it clear back to Ada before it started knocking pretty good again. I cannot START to tell you of the self discipline it took for me to ride for 110 miles at 40-45 mph the whole way! But I did get the absolute best gas mileage I have ever gotten.... 38 mpg compared to 27-30 on the rest of the trip. I would gladly give up the 10 mpg if I could have rode 65-70 though.
I just wanted to thank everybody for such a great time. This was my first rally, and usually when you get a group of guys together, you get at least one bad apple in the bunch. Everybody there seemd to be XSeptional people, and there wasn't a single one that I wouldn't enjoy hanging out and spending time with. (So I guess the bad apple was ME??) lol.
I hope everyone makes it home safe to read this. I will try to get everybody that came a copy of these pictures sent out tomorrow (Monday) before I leave Tuesday. I deleted some that were unrecognizable. I am definately no photographer, and it looks like I took many many pictures of the top of my windshield, but I did the best I could one handed, holding the camera up blindly while riding... lol. Maybe you can find a couple you like. Thanks for a great weekend.

Glad you made it, Tod! Maximan, Dave and Poprock got back to Stillwater about 4:15 after catching lunch in Tulsa. No problems on the trip. The King of Kong made better gas mileage in the mountains than he did on the flat land coming home. Go figure. He needs a new set of rings, but he still runs pretty good.
Agreed about a very nice bunch of people. Not a bad apple among them. XSively good time was had by all.

I was feeling GRRRRRRRREAT! Uuntil I saw two stinkin' tax collectors at the Stillwater exit.

No they didn't collect any tax from me. It just puts a damper on my good spirits when see Dudly Doright raping peoples wallets.

Other than that it was a great rally. We had ten bikes total and 7 were Elevens. Any of guys that bailed out for fear of rain missed a couple excellent riding days.

Saturday mornign it sprinkled just a little. But with in a couple hours cleared and turned out to be beautiful. The ride of Talimena Ridge was beyond spectacular. This morning was even better weather wise and the route was very nice..

We made it home safe and sound, minus a few dollars. The tax collectors on wheels decided that my dad and I were driving too fast when we were passing a car. I am used to Texas drivers and I don't like to linger abreast of other cars. Anyway, maby after a few phone calls, I can get it straightened out with somewhat less damage. They were pulling over cars left and right. They had an old gas station full of cop cars and poor peole like me pulling out the wallet. Other than that 30min, my Dad and I had a GREAT time. We took a while packing up the tent site, but we eventually got on the road. We will be definitely doing this again! The weather was great, even though it did rain a bit. I had no idea that this event would be that fun. Hopefully I will be seing everyone in the near future again. I was a litle upset that I was only getting around 42mpg maby that was because I was loaded down with the tent, sleeping bag, and a few other things. In the mountains I got a bit better because I basically ran in 5th the whole time at low rpm and the air is better. Well thanks again everyone for the tools for the carb job. It got us home. You all are great.
