Are any of you North Texans familiar with the roads in the Waco/Hillsboro area? That may be a good area to organize a group ride, and still not be too far from home. We could go to the town of West to chow on some 'colacthies' (I know I butchered that spelling). SWMBO and I used to run down there just to eat lunch before the yung'uns came along.

Isn't the Dr Pepper museum around there somewhere? I know you can still get the "real sugar" Dr. Pepper south of DFW area...Hico and the like....

Havent been here long enough. But if you wanna, we can get together and check em out, anything for a ride. I could make a weekend out of it. I guess your only a couple hours away from here? Could be a scouting trip for the "Northern" XS owners group

Kolaches ( I had to look up the correct spelling) are a Czech food, as the town of West was founded by Czechs and Germans back in the mid 1800's. The best way to describe them is they are kinda like pigs in a blanket, only much better. The have meat filled ones and fruit filled ones. They are quite good, and the store is located right on I 35. West is located between Hillsboro and Waco

I would like to go on a ride with some other XS/XJ owners, but I'm right in the middle of the zones. Though I think this is the closest to me.

With a drive from Wichita, Kansas, I'm looking at a minimum of 6 hours to get to Waco and 9 hours to get to Galveston.

Oh well, maybe sometime I can make it.

How far are you from some of the Okies? I don't know too much about southern OK, just the Turner Falls area . Not much good riding in my area, and I don't know about any of the areas not in my vicinity. maybe some of the N.Texans could meet up in southern OK for a ride. That's not too far from here, and we could still make it home the same day. We don't have time for any long rides any more, so we just go for little putts around here, 50 miles or so. Nothing exciting, but it beats hangin' round the house doing nothin'.

I might be able to swing Oklahoma, I'm only a couple hours from Tulsa and whatnot, if that gives you an idea.

Mid-east to Southeastern Oklahoma has some beautiful country to ride. Talimena drive is great hilly twisty country, and is WELL known to bikers. It's even fun with those loud hogs huffin and puffin up the hills in front of you. Great cruise... but also lots of oportunities to drag a footpeg if that's what suits you.
I have heard a lot about the Waco area also... so I would still love to meet up sometime there at some point... ya know... and try food I can't pronounce! Long as there's some ice cold hops there.. can wash down about anything!

Don't get me wrong here, if it's inconvenient for most of you to ride north enough for it to be convenient-ish for me, don't worry about it.

But it would be nice to see another XS in person.

No problems at all for me. It doesn't take much of a reason for me to have an excuse to meeet and go riding... no matter where (within reason). Waking up in the morning sounds like a pretty good excuse to me!! : ) I don't mind even coming north to meet somewhere... just don't have a clue of where to go. SWMBO usually doesn't make me obey.. so usually with a few days notice.. I'm good to go. Sometimes... a few minutes notice and I'm good to go too! lol.
If you guys have never been to Talimena drive in Eastern Oklahoma, it would probably be worth your weekend to take a trip sometime. Here's a link to a site about it.

there's a link at the bottom to the regular website, but this one has more representative pictures of the road... lots of hills and curves with scenic turnouts.

Well... just checked a map. It's 225 miles from Dallas to Talihina, Oklahoma.. where talimena drive starts, and almost 350 from Wichita. That would be a pretty intense one day trip. I agree with Firehawk though.. it would be nice to take a trip with something other than Harleys and Hondas. I personally have no problem with any of them, but it would be nice to hang out with others of the same breed, so I don't feel like the lonely red-headed step child riding next to these other loud noisy expensive bikes. Just give me a litttle heads up, and I'll meet wherever you guys agree on. Like I said.. I'm still wanting to ride at the Waco area at some point, but I have no problem meeting in several places. No use limiting it to one ride... one choice... but again.. up to others.

I'm just up the road from you a little ways, Firehawk. My bike won't be back together for a couple of weeks, though. I could probably make it down to OK for a weekend cruise, but would probably bring along the Girlfriend who MBO, and my HD ridin Pap.
