Bob Jones Memorial Ride At The Monster Garage

OK, I just talked to Karla and the poll results indicate that June 5th is the winner of the poll. That just happens to be the day before the Heart of America Motorcycle Enthusiasts Vintage Motorcycle Show at the Downtown Airport. That event is from 10 AM to 4 PM on Sunday and general admission is $5 with $10 to show a bike. There is an article on this event in the latest copy of Motorcycle Classics. Check the HOAME web site for more info. Last year this event drew 3,000 people. They hold it in the hanger where the Lockheed Super Constellation is housed, and the article says they may crank up one of those 18 Cylinder 3,250 HP Wright Turbo-Cyclone turbocompound radial piston engines for all to enjoy. This airliner went into commercial production in 1945 and was last produced in the late 50's. There is also a Martin 404 airliner, a Douglas DC-3, and a Lockheed Tri Star airliner.

So anyway, how much more fun could you ask for than Friday evening and Saturday at Karla's place and a vintage bike show with lots of cool old airplanes for a backdrop on Sunday. You could possibly overdose on motorcyles on this weekend. I just my enter my original XS750SE that I bought new in June of 1978 and Karla said she might enter Street Sweeper. Enough of my blathering. See you all there. . . . Bohn

              two years too late

I was in KC this past weekend and I found the old Meriam cycle building. I even went inside. I think they sell medical equipment there now, Cherub I think it's called. I could even imagine the old XS11 heaven neon sign in the window. I was just two years too late.

                Hey, all:

Just stumbled on this thread (life's been so crazy lately that I haven't even had time to be in lurk mode). Got the June 5 weekend blocked out in the calendar. Karla, thank you so much for the offer to host...looking forward to seeing everyone again.

That gives me time to sort out an electrical problem on the XS...probably a rectifier or stator deal. BTDT with nearly every bike I've owned. I can definitely see SWMBO & me bringing both our rides over...and SHE would be riding the XS! (I would have to settle for riding the Concours...)

                Take care, everyone--

OK, get ready to rumble! June 5th rain or shine. My house, be there or be square! 12:00 is when we'll get started, but it's an open house, so come when you may. Motorcycles park in the back only please. There could be a parking problem; so late comers may need to go to old Merriam Cycle parking lot and call for a lift up the hill. I will need to get that approved with the old land lord. Address is 5911 Merriam Drive. Merriam Drive/Johnson Dr.

There will be lots of food, lots of memories and stories. There is a ton of
C H E A P motorcycle stuff. A free XS ELEVEN HEAVEN book for those who attend; one per family please.
It would be super if I heard how many are planning on coming, but I doubt that will happen. I'm trying to plan enough food.
My email address is karlaj@kc.rr.com. Please send me an email and I will give you my address, and phone numbers.
Hope you can come. See ya soon!

Silly Blue... The book is an excuse to ride! Gas is never figured into the equation when it comes to riding. I already REALLY wanted to go, so this was just more of an incentive! The idea of meeting up with a passionate group of XSives to remember the Patron Saint of the XS1100 is reason enough for me to attend, but I do have to convince SWMBO of that...

Thankfully, it's close enough for me to go round-trip in a single day!

Karla gave me one when I was over there and I kinda felt bad taking something for free from a widow, but I will pay her back soon enough.
