  • Talimena Rally 2008!!!

    OK Boys and Girls....

I have been asked a couple times about when the Talimena ride would be. A couple good friends said they were blacked out for all of Nov and Dec for taking vacations, so that leaves October. I think that would be a better month anyway to hopefully get a few of those northerners down here before it gets too cold for them to ride.

I was looking at Oct 25th (Saturday) for the ride. The weekend after that is Halloween, and those with yungins might have to abstain. So... is this date good for most? Maybe the weekend before that? Post your opinions so we can get things going. I know it's three months away, but some need that much notice.

Most of the time, everyone rolls into town on Friday at some point, then we ride a couple hundred miles on Saturday, then everyone starts heading home on Sunday.

We meet in a small biker friendly town called Talihina Oklahoma. Most everyone either stays in a nice cheap but clean place called the Kiamichi Inn, or camps in the state park a few miles out of town.

There is a road that goes from Talihina Oklahoma to Mena Arkansas.. they merged the names and call it the Talimena Trail. A more beautiful ride would be tough to find.... Miles of this...

And this was most of the people that turned out last year... but not all.

      Everyone welcome!!!

Is that what it looks like when it's not raining like hell? Wow! I'd sure like to ride on that road.
I don't think camping in late October would be such a great idea, though. We wouldn't have to schlep so much gear, but we'll miss sitting around the camp fire, and relaxing.

That first picture IS you riding on that road.. lol. Hard to believe the weather we got on the return trip when the skies looked like that on our way over...

That'll teach me to always pack my raingear...

I think that I would prefer an early october ride like last year. I really dont think that we could have asked for better weather.

but will need to know something soon as there are a couple of weeks of vacation available at those times that John can get... but need to get in the change soon... before someone else snags them...

OK.. Since no one else has made it in here to voice.. we have several "Whenevers".. and an actual vote for early October.

So... The earlier in the month, the better chance of getting people from say.... IOWA to show up?? (Ahem Bob)

So... Oct 4th or October 11th??? We have a possibility that John and Kat will need the weekend of the 18th, so we'll try to get this nailed down to what is best for MOST.

Put in your votes so we can get going. I'm definately with the either/or/any/all crowd. It really doesn't matter for me.

                              Okay...

John checked the available dates... and it looks like either the weekend of October 11th or October 25th for us...
                              Does that help?
If he can get his schedule changed to Friday - Saturday off, then it really won't matter much as far as the ride... but we'd have more time with the posted dates...
