[B]Is it on Saturday the ride from Talihena to Mena?
I got the rat bike going today and put the side
hack on it, just need to sync the carbs tomorrow.

I'll try to leave Mena early enough to meet everyone
somewhere on the trail and tag along back to here.

About what time do you all plan to leave Talihena?

    Mena Jim,

Acording to the revered XS traditional schedule, that leaving time would be breakfast thirty. Most always a few minutes after any stated standard time.

Leading an XS rally is more like hearding cats, than running a railroad.

Come an eXStra mile and have breakfast with us at Pam's hateful hussy diner. We will be there after they open and before we ride.

Anyone interested in lottery pool on actual leaving time? We might have to ride to Nevada to set it up leagally.

    Happy motoring,
Brent in GA (coming soon to a state near you)

    • Well, bad news for me...
Im not going to make it up after all. It seems I have pulled my back out again and my sciatica is killing my legs and when this happens, there is no riding for me until it clears up.
So my apologies to everyone, mostly because I have the XS11 banner and was supposed to bring it up. Oh well maybe next time.

      Ride Safe guys.

If anyone is interested, this is the weekend for the annual
Wheels & Wings Fest at the Mena airport. Take 8 East
from Mena, there should be signs at the turnoff to the
airport. Lots of display bikes, airplane stuff and the usual
          food and music.

            • WOW is all I can say. Another GREAT rally with some fantastic riding. The weather cooperated very nicely after a late start Saturday due to a morning shower.. and waiting on the *Cough.. Harley Guy! : ) Brent pulled in to town with his Harley, and two out of the three layers of belts showing on his back tire. Poor guy. He knew the flak he was gonna get for that!! He took it like a soldier and got fixed back up just in time ride day when the streets dried.

I didn't get w whole bunch of pics this time, but here's one with all of the survivors that lasted the ride and the start of heading back to Talihina from Mena.

Bohn Frazier summed it up best. When he and his wife came down off the hill on the ride from Mena to the bottom of the mountain by Talihina, he pulled up next to us grinning ear to ear. Before he even got his bike stopped.. he stated, "That is the MOST fun you can have with your clothes on!" Nicely put.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told that there were 8 XJ's and 7 XS's. The best showing I've ever seen for the XJ. Way to go guys!!

Of course we had Brent on a Harley, and Mike on a Valkerie.. that I am told handles it in the curves like an XS. Mark's (Dale_1) friends Jack and his wife (Sorry... terrible with names) and Bob Jones and Russ hung with us for the first half of the ride.

So, when you think things can't get better, I come home to a very happy to see me wife... and these. PLEASE don't make me choose which excited me more?!? lol..

I'll post a few pics later, but am hoping someone has a few more than me. Thank you to everyone for making this the best ride that I personally have ever been on. Great roads... even greater people.

              Tod

              • Home again

                [B]Had fun.
Thanks to Tod for puttin this ride together!

I made it home just before 1030 eastern daylight savings time.

Interesting trip. Missed an exit in Memphis Figured another route through. Got off at an exit to check map, and ended up at Airport. Arkansas 8 was another unplanned, but enjoyable rd.

Traffic leaving Taledega raceway was heavy but moving fast (drafting?)

                Great rally.

                Happy motoring,

                • That was a heck of a ride for you Brent! A 13-14 hr trip done in 11 with missed turns?? Sounds like someone has been riding around XS's all weekend!

Glad to hear you made it safe and sound.

I just talked with HippyDave and Skippy (Greg) and they both made it home safe and sound.

I had a blast and am glad you guys liked the route. A bit of a change there at the last second, but I think it worked out great. Everybody goes there to ride the Trail anyway... why not do it twice?!?

Thanks for the good memories everyone. And Vince... the shirts looked great! Thank you.

                      Thanks again to Tod!

Thanks Tod for the great ride!

Thanks to all the XSives for a great rally!

Thanks to Vince for the awesome shirts! We gotta do something like that every rally. Its a great memento.

SWMBO and I clocked 1500 miles in 5 days. Not bad for a 28-year-old bike!

                          • Sorry we had to bail halfway through the ride. but we had reservations in Hot Springs, and the heat was getting to Bob. But we had a great time, and sure did enjoy seeing all those 1100's. Thanx a million to Tod for all his hard work putting on a great rally, and Thanx also to Vince for the T-shirts, they were really cool. Hope to see you all again real soon. I will try to keep you all in the loop for a possible rally here at Merriam Cycle. More info to come.

                            • Thanks to all for a great time. Meeting everyone was really fun and the ride! well riding in Houston will never be the same again. I learned so much in doing the twist ties, none in Houston you know, that the trip was a must for a return. My friend Ned Ely runs a CB750 Honda and wants to go now, so we will probably make it next time. Thanks a to Tod for all his organizational skills putting on a great rally, and Thanks also to Vince for the GREAT T-shirts, I even got some for the family and one for Ned. I recorded 1,239.6 miles in three days portal to portal on an '82 bike with a 68 year young rider, first time such a long ride . Ready for the next one after I get the headlight to work again. We got back to Houston around 6:30PM, just in time for a big helping of home made beef curry and a Scotch.
