Thanks for the offer Terry, but i really do need to isolate this myself. That is the way i learn and remember things. I have to learn about this bike if i want to make that long trip. Besides, it would be a chilly ride to Bend this time of year. LOL

The trip back East has been postponed. My wife and kids don't want me to go alone, so i need to respect their wishes for now. Maybe next year. I so want to do this before i am to darn old or sick. We have a trip to Disney planned for the end of June, so i sure hope our ride doesn't come at that time. Still have not solved my high rpm loss though.
I don't think it will interfere with your vacation I was thinking it might be safer weather wise to plan for late July or August.I don't know anyone up there to help you on your bike. But if you get it down here for a couple of days I help you and see what we can figure it out.Maybe if we put our heads together we could come up with something.

Sorry Bob I don't do snakes!!LOL If I don't get it done this weekend I'll get it done in a week or so.(I have a new grandson due any day)I'll plot a 3 day ride coarse then post it to see what you guys think. It sounds like people are hip to this ride idea so I'll go with it a little bit and see where it takes us.Are you still planning a ride back east this summer?

    WOW!!! That's ambitious.

I would need to get a more comfortable seat for the XJ, before I could handle that many days in the saddle.

I think Jeremy is onto something. Why couldn't we make it a riding rally?Start on the coast on say Thursday,Ride to eastern OR or WA.Then on Friday ride another 300-400 miles south through eastern or central OR,Sat back west 300 miles or so to southern OR or northern CA coast and then Sunday we could all ride home.Or we could reverse the order but I think it would be fun to make a big circle. Also I think it would be a good idea to pick camp grounds next to or near a motel.Members could join us at any point along the route.

I would like to see a good carb clinic this summer as well. I also want to put on enough miles this summer to warrant a new set of tires next winter. They are new now, so that would be maybe 6000 miles.
Ride? Yes, takes some time, but worth the trip. I rode to Tillamook from GA once. Pic in my avatar is me on bike overlooking Pacific ocean southwest? of Tillamook. Photo by Poprock. I enjoyed the ride out, but local knowledge of back roads is often the Best. Besides, My pocket knife is dull, and the best knife sharpener I know lives in Tillamook.

    Great rallies

    2) Some just can't get enough riding and would prefer to ride every day, leave socializing for the evening.
    3) Others like the accumulative XS/XJ knowledge and expertise. The tech sessions are a big hit.

A perfect rally has it all, but that takes a fair amount of space and administration on somebodies part.

Hosting a rally does not have to cost an arm and a leg. I have done it both ways and they were all successful rallies. It does take space. I find XS'er to be more the generous enough to help with the cost.

I would like to host another rally in Oly one of these summers, but not right away. By the time school gets out I just want to get away.

My vote is to go east. The coast is an incredibly scenic ride, but cages and motor home ruin it for me. Riding around the big mountains in the PNW is awesome, but weather and traffic are a big deal. Camping (sleeping on the ground) is not one of my favorite things, but far better than poking along in traffic. If a group decides to meet in eastern Oregon somewhere, count me in.

I was bummed about missing the Detroit Lake ride. August works best for me, once school starts the craziness ramps up.
Yes! It's all good. Tillamook or Idaho, I waant to go. Late summer before school starts is good for me. (no vote since I cannot vote yes twice.)

There is always the opportunity to stay at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site. There are showers, electric hook-ups and it is only a few miles to John Day for food and supplies. There are a few great loop rides with interesting destinations like Granite, Sumpter, John Day Fossil beds, etc. I'll look it to this some more and post up some ride routes to see what folks think. Happy holidays and best wishes for 2010!

Not really it's AWD but I don't run winter tires.I just leave it in the garage unless we hit a nice day.We did however get a dusting of snow the other day so I turned off the traction control and went drifting! What a kick.

Thanks for your efforts on this. Does that Porsche really do any good in the snow?
