  • XS East 2009 - The Vote

Despite 9 pages of posts, and disgarding with respect the many mentions of Ontario due to bugs that early in the spring, and the same with the Adirondacks, we only have 4 worthy suggestions.

Take a couple of weeks for this, I am sure more discussions will occur. We need to have a decision by mid Aug so I / we can start making route plans and motel calls and etc.

If anyone want to have additional group meetings, no problem. That is a good way to meet your local members and some distant ones. I belong to other bike groups; for example there must be 100 FJR rallies all over the country each year, in addition to their annual regional meets like we do here.

Marty, you appear to know where you're going most of the time, but, just in case anyone is looking up hotels,

    Brattleboro is in VERMONT.

Yeah I was looking at Carolyn's idea in the other post about Mt. Washington in NH and how far it was from Brattleboro and I was typing and I missed the 10 minute edit window....

Wonder if a Moderator can fix that.

I'm throwing in my vote for Marietta, OH. I love that whole area around OH, PA, and WV. Appalachia in the Spring is sure to make for some great scenery and a fun ride.
I know this, because Tyler knows this.

I voted for Brattleboro VT because I have never seen that area and would like to.

I like Brattleboro too, get to go through Cornwall or Kingston and maybe hook up with some of the other canucks for the ride down, but Kane is a lot closer (400 km versus 900 km +\-). Decisions, decisions, I flipped a coin.

Uh....if Ontario and the Adirondacks have been snuffed because of bugs (read that as black flies), Brattleboro, VT will have the same issue, I would think, as will NH, ME, yada, yada, yada....

We have black flies down here in Rhode Island, not at the same intensity as northward, but they are down here, so I would think VT would have the same issue....

Despite that, Brattleboro is a good place, as I'm sure the others are also!

Me..... I lost the coin down a sewer

Seriously....Kane was tails and the coin landed face first.

This years rally wasn't a problem for bugs. When we left Eastern Ontario there were very few bugs out and I fully expected them to get worse as we headed south. We saw very few if any on the way down and back home! I don't think it is the area as much as it is how early/late spring arrives. This year spring seemed a bit late.

                    My 2 cents.

I would agree with the spring theory, Giant. I was in the Adirondacks in early/mid June and the black flies were thick enough to carry us away. My brother, who lives in Malone, was telling me that they were unusually thick for mid-June because Spring was cold this year.

Yea ... I know this doesn't help... But I will go almost anywhere you guys and gals decide.

So I'm not going to vote to swag where we are going to go.

Not sure I am one of those people Phil was saying?
