Does PB Blaster etc. wick upwards?
penetrants

Yes, it's my go to for a penetrant. I have Kroil also but I believe PB works better. Some have reported a 50/50 mix of Acetone and Transmission fluid works well but I've never had any good results.Last edited by Schming; Yesterday, 05:36 PM.1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors

PB Blaster has come to my rescue numerous times.
This time is a little different problem. I can't loosen a stupid thin, flat nut (about 1 1/2 inch) that tightens down a bathroom sink drain. Doesn't help matters that I can barely get a wrench on the damn thing.
A new drain is ready but can't get the old one loose and out.

Pretend it's the bottom race in your bike's steering stem. Cut it with a Dremel or die grinder?-Mike

Cutting is a good idea. I would try heat from a heat gun or a small pin-point propane torch. The heat will help the PB Blast wick inside the threads. Use small, thin vice grips on that lock nut.PB Blaster has come to my rescue numerous times.

How many times have you sprayed penetrating oil on a bolt and watched it burn off when you apply heat? Recently came across this YouTube short using a crayon of all things that totally makes sense!

Dean, If you can get a drill perpendicular to the drain tube, drill a hole through the flat side of the nut maybe 3/16 or 1/4 inch. Then a small cold chisel from the bottom up split the nut and Bobs your Uncle
Basin wrench is the proper tool for this situation.

I'll hit it with the PB a number of times over the next few days and see what happens.
Another BIG part of this problem is the thickness of that nut. Tough to get a wrench on it securely. No clue why it was designed that way.
If it still won't budge, seems like there are a number of choices to cut it. Hadn't thought of drilling though!80 SG
