      • UPDATE:

Ok, shelled out about 250 bux for new tires, mounting, a new valve stem for the front and a new tube for the back. I also picked up a carb stick!!! woohoo! Only 50 bux at the yamaha dealer, 4 paralell tubes, and a nice big bottle 'o mercury to fill it with! They even had my 145 main jets! woohoo!

bad news is, both of my rear bearings are shot - the big one was all super wobbly and stuf, which could cause all sorts of problems, right? Ah well, I got a week until my new front MC comes from partsnmore, so I think I'll shell out for one over at bikebandit or who knows where. Any suggestions as to the best place to buy the rears'd be great, though I think someone mentioned that the smaller rear can be gotten from Kragen, and that the bigger around one (left side) has to be special ordered from yamaha - so maybe Bikebandit'll have it.

Anyhow, the new dunlops look spiffy, I got my main jets and a carb sync stick set, so I'll be gettin' the bike fired up as soon as I get the new mufflers on the exhaust, wich is bound to be any time this week! All I need to do is get the adapter exhaust piping, hack up the old headers, and manufacture some adjustable baffles (I think I'm going to make them out of brass, in the fashon of the carb butterfly seals - might as well try to make them pretty).

That's all for now, more info when it comes available.

        • Hey Kris,

I have read through the post and just wanted to mention that if you have not already done so check out the tech tips on the master cylinders. You need to make sure you clean the splooge holes so your brakes don't drag.

          • Thanks, Cajun - I haven't gotten to my rear MC yet, but it's next on the order of business, and I will indeed pay special attention to the spooge hole. A bolt broke off in my front one, and the inside was BADLY corroded, so I ordered a new one. I have a sneaking suspicion though that the rear will somehow be salvagable. (more like a blind hope).

I'm about to rejet the carbs and put them all back together!!! yahoo!

            • They're together!

...well sortof. When I screwed in my new mainjets, on carb number 3 from the left, I noticed that in unscrewing the OLD mainjet, it looked like it was coming out at an angle. I looked at the thingie the main jet screws into, and it looked a little warped - not too big a surprise, they were gunky anyways, and this particular one had been cracked at the top, but not totally beyond use, I think. So I screwed in the new jet, and it was at an angle for a bit, then as it got closer to seating properly, straightened out - as I though it would. But then, as I gave it a good twist to tighten it, it seemed to not want to stop turning. *AGH* I assume this means my atomizer is stripped, but it still seems like the mainjet is seated in there fairly well, and even sealed - I mean, its not going to fall out or anything like that, I don't even think it'll move in the slightest.

I'm hoping now that I've got everything together including my new air filters that it'll all just WORK.

If not, I gotta buy the atomizer things. Even if it DOES work, I know it'll only be a matter of time - I'll go ahead and order the atomizers asap.

              *sigh*

but at least the air filters look cool! Oh, and I noticed that I could take the filter off of the rubber boot without any issues - it kinda "pops" on there, so I put the boots on the carbs first, to inspect any potential obstruction of the diaphram vent tube, but there was plenty of room for air to get through there with the boots seated properly.

              • Question:

Should I buy these two bearings as a replacement on my rear wheel:

                360404-001

                and

                359988-001

those are the part numbers over at bikebandit, here's the link to the page - I'm asking for confirmation because the diagram is a little tough to read.

                  • Kris,

You got the right ones, guy.

Don't forget the trick I told you about-remove the hub to get access to the back of the bearings.

                    • yes indeed - nor will I forget to put the new bearings in the freezer.

Thanks guys for everything! I feel like I'm making progress, and am getting ever closer to a working bike!
