      knewsom,

You are obviously spending too much time in front of your computer!

Averaging 8.77 post per day and already up to 123 posts in April!

At that rate you will be a GURU in 4 months! A new record?

Put down the mouse and back away from the keyboard and nobody gets hurt

"Many posts a Guru does not make..."

lol - well Randy, I think part of that is a function of me WORKING on a computer all day, and also partly a function of not having a manual yet, but being chalk FULL of questions!

Got my Clymer manual today, so I may only be posting with updates for a couple days (er, I HOPE).

....now if only my partsnmore order would arrive!!! It's been sitting in a FedEx warehous in Ohio since the 22nd!!!

        -Kris

PS: crap, I accidentally posted this on the main forum. my apologies.

            "Clymer"ing out of darkness....

            Thanks, Os,

The Clymer IS a good manual, though I wish it were more in-depth (some of the steps for removing things say stuff like, "remove the oil seal from the front wheel bearings," and offer no explanation.

I think the detailed pictures and diagrams are the most important thing, that and the hard numbers for what one should be adjusting to.

All in all, I don't know what I'd do without this site!

Update: I got my new carb floats too, and my bigass partsnmore order should be delivered TODAY! Exciting times are upon me - just a few more things (brakes, middle and final gear oil, lubricate final drive assembly, replace front and rear bearings, get a new tire on front wheel, balance them, carburator reassembly/synching, etc), and I'll be able to start her up and see what else needs to be done before I can take her on a nice long ride.

My personal opinion is that Haynes manuals are better than Clymer. Unfortunately the Haynes is out of print but sometimes used copies show up on ebay. I have both Haynes and Clymer XS650 manuals and the Haynes is both more complete and the illustrations and text are better. Found a few errors in the Clymer too. Nice to have a factory manual as well if you can find it.

Thanks, Mike - Yeah, I've read that a lot of people prefered the Haynes, but I needed a manual NOW, and couldn't seem to track down one, so I ordered a Clymer from amazon.com.

I'm workin' on getting the factory manual as well.

UPDATE: My partsnmore shipment is ON THE TRUCK FOR DELIVERY! hopefully they'll LEAVE the package instead of leaving me a NOTE.

Best to have all of them if possible. Look who's talking, I don't even have Clymer yet for my 11.

                    • I tried to tell the guys on the TeXSive Spring 06 ride that these bikes just don't like that right side saddlebag cover ... My bike disliked it so much it threw it at a BMW right behind me! Of course putting it back on in the middle of nowhere is how I got my new nickname "Duct Tape" .... LOL
Actually, she looks like a good find. With all the help on this site and with our fellow riders and owners being more than generous with help, you should have no problems getting her running great and staying that way.
I was at a PGR "mission" last week and several people noticed I wasn't on a Harley or Harley wanna-be, and one young guy actually told me how "Cool" Sancha is (Sancha is the name SWMBO named my bike). So, appearantly there is still Cool left in them also...

                          • Hey guys, thanks for the well-wishes.... I need you to keep your fingers crossed for me though, it seems as though the package was delivered..........

.......but it's nowhere to be found.

Keep your fingers crossed that one of my neighbors that I DIDN'T ask about it tonight nabbed it for me for safe-keeping.

...because $138 worth of essential parts that I waited a WHOLE WEEK to get so that I can put my $*@(*T^ bike back together are going to do NOBODY ELSE any damn good, and theiving that would just be an act of cruelty.

I just want to rip my bloody hair out.

                            agh.
