In case anyne missed my blatant thread hijack a few minutes ago, there was some confusion over how my petcocks should be functioning. I feared they were broken and non-functional, thankfully, they were merely mislabled! "ON" functions as "PRI" ought to, and "PRI" functions as "ON" ought to. Since hardly anyone else is ever going to ride the baboon, I'm leaving it as is, and remembering to leave it on "PRI".
*PHEW* The project looks manageable to me once more.

Hey there Knewsom....welcome!.......................and those trunks and mounts ARE yamaha issue.........79-80 looks like.
81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.
I switched my handles once (hope you didn't) and one side had to be rotated upwards to get one of the functions. I posted this in the hijacked thread (sort of).

...and what do I do with the old gunky fluids..?

I put my old brake fluid in with the oil. I then recycle everything at once. We have a good recycle center in Santa Cruz County, and I can take in batteries, oil, filters, and coolant for free.

I'm glad mine didn't end up on the wrong sides! at least the handle goes the right way...
bad news is I just found one of my petcocks LEAKING on PRI. (the usual "on"). luckily, "RES" DOESNT leak. I guess I'll just have to go by what my gas gauge says as far as when it's time to fill up.
UNLESS.... Maybe "RES" is the usual "on", and "ON" is the usual "PRI", and "PRI" is the usual "RES"! ....weeee shall see!

Place where I recycle oil (auto parts store) has a prominent sign which states that the oil is to be uncontaminated by coolant, fuel or other liquids. While I could probably get away with mixing it into my old oil, I drop my other haz mats such as contaminated oil, brake and tranny fluid, old gas, old kero & dirty solvents at the HazMobile collection which has scheduled pick ups at different places throughout the county, usually at fire stations. You might call your local landfill for info on proper disposal of hazardous materials.

Heh, welll, scratch THAT idea - now I need to find me a new container fer the stuff.... I think I have an empty protein powder jar that might just do the trick.
As an aside, what's the best way to clean up gasoline if it's been dripping onto wood and bricks all night?
When will the Maroon Baboon realize my status as Alpha Male and JUST SUBMIT?!

These fat boy mufflers are enticing me - but it's odd, look at the mounting brackets! is it just me, or do these muffs look like they will only go on the same side of the bike..??

Was told two things. Throw some cat litter in the brake fluid to absorb it and then just dump the mess in the trash.
Or... (and this was from the environmental company that picks up our waste oil) It's ok to mix brake fluid with old motor oil for disposal. Mineral based, all comes from oil, anyway. what they can't have is chlorine mixed in, such as from some brake cleaners. Then it's contaminated oil, and they charge extra to take it away.
