  • knocking from the vacuum advance

    dear xsirs,

on to the next challenge, the bike idles great , however the was a loud knocking sound eminating from the engine, so i decided to recheck/thighen the cam chain

    1) do i tighten the stopper bolt to 4.3 ft/lbs, to mee that very tight, anyways it is all quiet, bu i'm concerned it is too tight, any comment would be apprieciated

    2) looking at thevacuum advance unit, it's going crazy knocking the crap out of the vacuum advance canister, what do yu think the problem is?

that is what the knocking is, other that that the engine sounds seviceable and road worthy, yeah!!

    thanks for the help

    Hey Mason,

Glad to hear the second bench synch worked. Now....are you sure the vacuum advance hose is attached to the metal nipple on the #2 carb BODY, not to the #2 carb intake/synch port!?!?

The vacuum pulses are much stronger from the intake boot, and can cause the thumping action you are getting from the vacuum advance module, whereas the carb body port is metered properly to provide the right vacuum with reduced pulses!

yes it's the advance hose is connected to the carb body, and i removed the canister altogether, and i think the entire mechanical advance mechanisim is rocking back and forth violently.
