    Hi all:

    I have a '78 XS that I bought new and it has been basically sitting for the past 20 some years.

    With a new battery, fresh oil and gas it fired right up, so I am in the process of getting it road worthy again.

    I am rebuilding the master cylinders and putting new rotors on it and I am wondering if anyone would know EBC's part number for the rear rotor.

    I sent EBC an e-mail but have received no response. One place told me the rear rotor is a MD 2025 and another said it uses a MD2024.

    Anyone know the correct rear rotor for a '78?

    Thanks and it's good to see there are quite a few 11's still out there.

    The three rotors on the '78 are all the same part number. Whatever they say for the fron, put on the rear.

        Hey there Dorkbme,

        Like DiverRay says, they are supposed to be all the same. According to the EBC product catalog, they list the front rotors as:
        MD2024RS and MD2024LS for right and left side, AND they list the
        MD2025 as the rear rotor!?

        Their rotors are drilled with the swirling hole pattern, and so that's why they recommend the left and right side differentiation, however, a few folks have commented about the 80-82 series OEM slotted rotors, and have mounted the alleged right side style on the left and vice versa with NO ILL EFFECTS!!

        Back when the bikes first came out, Yamaha made a differentiation in the pad kits for the front vs. rear on the 78E and other standards, supposedly a different material is used/needed for the rear vs. the front.

        Now, EBC also makes brake pads, and their catalog lists the SAME pad # for the 78E front and rear, so not sure why they would need to list a different ROTOR for the rear vs. the front, vs. just saying put the Front Right Rotor on the rear??

        After all of this, WHY are you wanting to spend this kind of $$ on new EBC rotors, vs. either getting NOS/used from EBAY, or just cleaning up yours? I had some with a little layer of rust on them, and just took a wire brush on a drill and cleaned it off. Also, just repainted the center spokes, and they looked and worked just fine!

          Thanks for the reply, Top Cat.

          Only reason I am replacing all the rotors is because I can.<BG>

          I have a Road Star that I have customized about as far as I want, and I had a friend that said I should get my 11 running. So, not being one to leave well enough alone.........

          I was told the MD2025 is about a 1 1/4" smaller in diameter than the stock rear rotor on a '78, so that's why I was hoping someone could tell me for sure that the MD 2024 would be the correct one.

          As far as running a front rotor on the rear, I thought of that too. The rear rotor is thicker than the front, so didn't pursue that angle any farther.

            Hey Mark,

            I just went out and remeasured my 79SF and 81SH, and ALL of the rotors are the same ~11 & 5/8" diameter size, and both front and rear are about 7.00 mm thick, manual says should be thicker than 6.5mm, both F & R. So...I would get 2 of the 2024RS, and one 2024LS, and not the 2025.

            BTW, if your old rotors are in otherwise good shape, I'm sure there are several folks here that could use them!

            Well, since $$ is no object, don't forget the SS brake lines! You can get colored ones to match a paint scheme from HEL USA!! I just got a set, they look great and perform great!

            Okay, you know you have to post photos of your finished restore/reburbish when you're done!!

              Top Cat:

              Thanks for the heads up on the brake lines. I was planning on replacing them, but didn't know where to look.

              I'm guessing that the 2025 is for an '82 1100.

              My frame is at the powdercoaters right now. I'm having it powdered a "rich gray", and painting the bike a pearl silver. Sometimes I'm not real fast, or maybe it's too many irons in the fire, so it might be a while before I have it back together for pics.<BG>

                I've got a set of three EBC rotors here, and Top cat is right. You'll want the 2024's.

                  So, do I want the MD2024 with no suffix, or do I want a MD2024RS for the rear, which is the same as the right front?

                    You'll want one MD2024 (left side), and two MD2024RS (one is for the rear). Hope that helps.

                        Are these the solid rotors that look like stock or the $200 ea. full-floating rotors?
