Does anybody know off hand what the 80SG valve cover bolts are to be torqued too? Just put a new gasket in and am polishing the cover. Need to know what to torque to when I go to put it back together this weekend.

I think it's important to tighten it uniformly so it doesn't twist or warp.
Also, check the bolts after a period of time, say a few weeks or a month. Don't know if I'm the only one, but about a month after I did my valve adjustment, I had one of those "where the h@!! is all this oil coming from??!!" moments. My cover bolts had loosened off... and I used a torque wrench on them as well. After I retightened them, it's been 2 seasons and so far no leaks this time.

The service manual does NOT recommend any particular torquing pattern for the valve cover bolts, but I always start in the middle closest to the cam chain well, and work my way outwards. Like Brian said, after a few rides where the gasket and engine have had a chance to warm up and cool back down, the gasket will shrink a little, so a retorquing is recommended!

One of the more common torque values for anything on the engine is 7 ft.lbs, and follow TC's advice on the pattern. Starting in the middle, and working outward will force any distortion to the ends of the valve cover. Just like an oil pan or valve cover gasket on a car.
