Well, I got them apart - and together (master cylinders). Now I,m having a fun (not) time trying to prime both cylinders. Would anyone have some sage advice how best to proceed?

bench bleeding off the vehicle is what i was taught-after that i like to bleed with vacuum-i use a a mity-vac hand vacuum gauge/pump. then i manually bleed the calipers- make sure your bleed screws are up top-i have seen upside down calipers kick experienced tech butts before. if you have some type of manua;-what i have said should make sense- sorry to be so brief but is late and i have a tendency to bottom line everything when i'm tired. xj guy! -

had the same problem--fill up the resivor, open the bleeder, put a tube on the nipple, and then suck on the other end of the tube. only take a little bit to get the MC primed.
helps to have a favorite bevarage close at hand--brake fluid tastes REALLY nasty

I had the priming delemma when I re-built the rear master cylinder on my XJ. I tried some of the suction methods, and after a long time with no results (at least you can say I don't suck).I removed the banjo bolt from the rear caliper and cleaned the outside of the rear line. I then stuck the brake line into a container of fresh brake fluid. I pumped the brake petal until the master cylinder and prop. valve were full of fluid. I then hooked the rear brake line up and bled the right front then the rear. I have a good petal with no mush.
