  • 79sf carb floats

I had one float chamber caved in. put some heat on it and melted solder (detached chamber from arm). Also tried to boil it out(in water) to no avail. I'm gonna try to pop the chamber apart, back out and then re-solder, but thought I'd check to see where I might be able to get a replacement if'n I screw the chamber up worse than it already is.

    MikesXS floats
The brass floats MikesXS sells have a part# 256-14985-00-00 (for a 38mm carb)

The part # for an SF is 2a2-14985-00-00

I don't know how to tell if it will work as a replacement or not. Any help?

After doing some searching on here, I haven't been able to find any other fix it method, or any other place to buy the float. I would prefer not to replace all four to the plastic floats before finding out what all my options are.

    Thanks
    Theron

      thanks TC

a little off thread here, but where did you find/make/etc your extended front forks on Godzilla? What is involved with extending them?

BTW, how did you figure out the Yamaha still carried those floats? I'm guessing you called up your local dealer?? The online parts deal just lets me add to wish list and doesn't give me a price for anything, so that's why I'm curious.

      Thanks again

You'll need to order from Bikebandit. You can't order from the Yamaha site.

Knew I couldn't order from the the yama site... it said to see a dealer for price and availability... That is no good? I was trying to NOT order from bike bandit, but looks like the way to go...

          thanks, John.

It's nice to get Forked Over by Frank!

            Hey Theron,

First of all, I use this site with the OEM Yamaha Parts #'s to verify whether it's still available from Yamaha, and I also get a fair price quote as well. Problem is this site has a $100.00 minimum order limit, so I haven't ordered anything from them!
            http://www.cycle-parts.com/

Then I went to BB, and checked the OEM parts to see what price they quote, knowing that it SHOULD be listed amongst their parts vs. being "Discontinued"!

Now, as for the front forks, after a bad front ender with a Cager I was able to get them from Forking by Frank . They are a simple bolt on fit. You provide the model make year and He makes them complete with the proper threading for end caps, etc.! IIRC, they even provided teh 4" spacers needed since they were 4" over, so the OEM springs work just fine!

Dale Hicks...IIRC recently put on 6" overs on his Special, I remember posting photos a while back, you can try doing a search for 6" over length forks! He got them from FbF, around $200.00 or so, nice fresh clean chrome!!!

Here's the thread with the photos...however looks like PHotodump might be down for now, the photos aren't showing up, and I know I didn't Delete them!?

              OUTFORKINGSTANDING

Thanks for the great info. I have a spare frame sitting here and I started getting some wild ideas...trying to stretch the frame a little and change angle of the neck to accept some longer forks and get a little rake on it.. But why mess with perfection?

Sometimes I hallucinate. I think someone put acid in my grilled cheese sandwiches.

              Thanks for the info, regardless.
