  • Yamabond #4

    Hi All,
I've started the big strip down, got all the gaskets but I can't find any Yamabond #4 anywhere.

Can anyone please help me out? I'd prefer to use the recommended stuff rather than making do.

    Thanks & keep revving

Some bike shops carry a product called either three bond or triple bond. I'm told it is the same stuff as the Yamabond.

Do you know if they're semi-drying. That way, it's easy to dismantle and also allows a bit of movement through temperature ranges.
      Thanks

Yes they are. I have used the Yamabond on engine cases many times before, and I like it.

Same company makes it for Yamaha. I would trust no other. Had good results with Gasketcinch but will always use Yamabond.

Thanks for all the info everyone, I'm a lot happier now that I know that I can use something else.

I'm sorry, I just saw you mentioned #4.

An XS1100 has no need for #4. Use Only Yamabond #5 on these. I only use sealer (#5) on valve cover and center case's only.

The rest of the gaskets gets no sealer at all. This way it won't trash the gaskets. You'll like Yamabond #5, Used it on every XS1100 worked on.

I use permatex #3 on gaskets, gluing them to the cover. Dry on the crankcase. That allows repeated use without having to replace gasket every time.

                  Permatex® Aviation Form-A-Gasket® No. 3 Sealant

"Nonhardening liquid gasket sealant/dressing/coating is a thin, brushable dressing or sealer for close-fitting parts. Suitable for continuous temperatures to 400°F (204°C). Resistant to antifreeze, aviation fuels, high-detergent oils and lubricants. Conforms to MIL-S-45180 D."

                  Suggested Applications:
Gasket coating or sealing close-fitting machined parts.

i do the same as Randy except i glue mine to the
case and smear vasoline on the opposite side
to prevent sticking, usually cause if i
pull a cover off, i tend to polish it on the buffer.
if its a gasket thats placed
on something i take off reguarly i smear vasoline
                      on both sides.

Try HondaBond. Honda got tired of their mechanic recomending Yamabond and they started selling the same stuff.

                          probably too late

found some yamabond at the following website

                          powerpartsplus.com

hope this helps. they also have useful diagrams if you search for xs1100 parts.
