Wondering if there was a circuit anywhere of the self cancelling blinkers on the XS.

Are you wanting a wiring diagram? What year? Is yours not working?

I can email you a service manual with schematics in .pdf format.

      Hey GEEZER or RANDY,

This might be another ITEM you could possiby try to replicate for folks that have bad flashers, but would like to replace them and KEEP their self cancelling feature, but don't want to spend $75.00 for a replacement OEM unit.....IF you can make one much cheaper?

I've been making circuit boards since I was a teenager. I have a spare flasher unit (I hope) on the parts bike I have. I oughta take it apart and reverse engineer it. I would be nice to actually use my degree for something more than just repairing things

Can't say how soon I can get it done, but I've got all winter, it seems..... used to have a CAD program for such things, wonder where it is.

Mine works OK but I was going to see if I could make it work with LED's without having to load them, seems that would defeat the purpose and the thing will not work without the load.
Maybe a nice engineer from Yamaha may help.........

Sometime back about a year another member posted a part number for a replacement cancelable flasher for about $58. I bought one and it works fine.

I also took it apart to see how it works. It's a relay with an RC network that make it flash, one line from the canceller unit supplies 12V , another pulls to ground to energize the relay. To cancel the cycle there is a line that grounds the cap and discharges it from the other line from the canceler. The relay is apparently in selflatching mode so by pushing the handlebar switch will also cancel the cycle.

All this is from memory so is approximatly correct, if not exactly. The bike is up for the winter, so maybe l'll go out and pull the flasher off to be sure.

Thought about doing one with a microcontroller, but this works and I have lots of other things to do.

a flasher upgrade would be great
mine doesn't flash unless the motor is running
              prob a voltage thing
but it did it with a brand new battery also

                Hey JW,

Perhaps you could get one of the electronic flashers for autos, and adapt it for the XS with self cancelling mode, that way we could use it for both standard bulbs and LED's, and still keep our self cancelling function!?

Here the info on the new part # for the new electronic flasher.

I bit the bullet and ordered a new 1A0-83350-70-00 from DGY Motorsports. They sent Part # 2NV-83355-00-00. The new part is rectangular but comes with its own rubber mount. It works. It fits. And I think its ALL ELECTRONIC.

P.S. Price was 56.27 plus shiping.

P.S.S. That was about nine months ago

I was more after the circuit of the self cancelling unit. I have an electronic flasher but it will not work with the self canceller just need to see the circuit so I can work out some mods
                    Thanks

Pulled out my notes from when I was fixing my flashers. The cancel unit is potted so the circuit is a mystery, but to cancel the green/yellow wire goes from open circuit to ground. The tan wire is 12v from the ignition switch, and the tan/white goes to the handelbar switch. These colors are for an 80G, yours maybe different.

You should be able to check this with a voltmeter/ohmmeter. Do you understand how the cancel unit works? There is a counter from the speedo that gives a distance signal, and a timer, the cancel signal is given when either the distance or timer finishs LAST. So if your trying to check things out, you'll have to rotate the front wheel to get the distance counter to complete, or you'll never get a cancel.

                      Hopes this helps

                        Here's an educated guess:

The "canceller unit" is mostly the timer.

So, if we can rig a bypass, we can use just the distance switch and ditch the 'canceller' unit? - Food for thought.

Never understood the thinking behind the time and distance engineering of that circuit.

If you're not moving, why would you want your signals to cancel?

There is a sensor in the speedometer housing that sends an impulse with each revolution caused by the speedo cable, to the canceller unit.

                            Skids,

I seem to remember (but that fails more often every passing year) that the signals are supposed to cancel after 1/4 mile or (X) time interval.

Is that impulse every revolution of the cable or every 1/4 mile tick of the odometer?

                            Has anyone actually tested this?

The way it looked to me is that there is a reed sensor that sends the impulse from a wheel inside the odometer. I took that piece off to try to find a place to spray inside. I'd guess the canceller has a counter of some sort, maybe combined with a timer?

I meant the self cancelling unit as well. But I know I have a spare flasher too now. I can't imagine there isnt a modern solid-state equivalent in the myriad of cars out there. I'm sitting here damnning myself bacause I dont have my wiring diagram handy. At the very least I know one could be made..it can't be all that complicated, can it? Does the canceller just unlatch the relay the same as pressing the botton does?

So many questions, and my book is 45 miles away...grrrr.
