Did you add oil while it was on the sidestand of centerstand? Just a thought.

Sometimes this happens if the crankcase is overfull. Like fuel in it or installing to much oil.

Attached is piccie of said beathers (if i can get the hang of attaching)

Big fat one - crankcase to top of airbox

Skinny one - middle trans casing to bottom of airbox

That setup is totally wrong! The hole in the bottom of the airbox is for flooded fuel to drain from, so if you should have a float stick, then it will fill the middle drive with fuel, and thin out the gear oil. Bad news! See the pic I posted earlier. That is the correct routing for a Special. I don't know where the hose is routed on a Standard. Just venting it to the atmosphere is ok. Maybe run it down behind the engine where the battery vent hose is routed, but do not leave it attached to the bottom of the airbox.

Makes sense. It's been attached there since before i had the bike with no apparent ill effects. But on your advice will detach and reroute.

Makes you wonder about POs thought process, either analaly tidy or just liked pushing hoses into available orifices.......

Good find John. I didn't notice it untill your post. The air box could be draing fuel into the middle gear?

The hose you showed in the pic, is it the battery vent hose or the middle gear vent hose?

                  regarding Paulio's pic

The thick hose from the crankcase breather: Comes from that odd shaped cover on top of the engine. It's hollow in there with a few chambers, if I recall. Allows oil mist to collect and drain back into the engine and lets vapors be sucked into airbox to burn. Having the middle gearbox vent hose attached to the airbox could cause the droplets of gear oil to be drawn up the hose to the airbox, collect there, and drip out. Three of my 1100's have the hose routed down behind the engine.
The clamp shown in the other pic... attached to the airbox, holds the drain/vent hose from my fuel tanks.

John is correct. The standard is routed to the top of the airbox, same as the special. I would drain the middle gear and refill to specs, just to be safe. It should only take about 1/2 hour.

Middle gear hose. Battery hose also held by bottom wire clip. Either one will slide thru that crankcase hole
