Just got her today. Ran the VIN - not stolen. She was abandoned in a garage, probably for 20 years. I named her Lucky.

Looks like a '79? If so, you do have some one year only body parts on the bike. Seat pan, side covers and grab bar are all '79 only. Almost everything else is easy to find. And yeah, nice find!

Looks like a '79 Special with Standard handlebars.

Congratulations - looking forward to watching her come back to life.

It looks like it was very wet in that parking spot area so the motor might be seized (on whatever cylinder had an open valve all these years). Pull the plugs and pour two shot glasses of Marvel Mystery Oil in each cylinder using a small funnel (and re-install the plugs hand tight) and let it sit for a few weeks before you try to turn over the motor. At the end of the 2 week wait, remove the plugs and put some balled up rags over the spark plug holes. Do not used the electric starter. Shift the bike into 5th (NOT 1st) and rock it back and forth until she releases. Oil will come flying out of the spark plug holes, that's what the rags are for.

Also: Does it have a title? Might be impossible to register without one in your state. It's just about impossible here in the state of Connecticunt.
