New member here but was a member of xs11.com when it was around. I need some guidance on an engine rebuild. Here’s the short story: about 20 years ago when I was young and dumb, full of big ideas but piss poor execution I decided I was going to restore my 1981 XS11. I took the engine completely apart, and didn’t know enough at the time to mark which pistons went in which cylinder. The pistons are still assembled with the rods. What’s the best way to go about reassembly. Am I looking at full machining before assembly to get things right? The bike had about 28k miles when taken apart. Thank you.

The rods have marks on the bosses, IIRC. The crank also has marks for the bearings, both main and rod, that may help you match them up. Get the 1978 XS1100 repair manual if you don't already have one. It gives all the important information about the engine that is not in the later repair manuals. I do have PDF's of the manual, but it is a little big to send through the pm here. My email is not liked by gmail, but I can send through most other systems with no problems.Ray Matteis
