You are going to be much better off going with the one Phil recommended. It is the mini blade version and fits in the same space as your original fuse holder. Easy fix for the fuses that are located there. I used a mini blade inline fuse holder to replace the main fuse on the right side of the bike and just used some solder joints and shrink tubing to secure it in the original holder so that it could be hooked up right back where it is now. Can just as easily be relocated to the six fuse holder that Phil posted. I also found that the small angled slip on connectors gave me more room to work with when connecting all the wires to the fuse block.

I get those confused. Thanks for the clarification. I do know the connection box you suggested is the same one that TC bought a supplied for quite a while. It fits nicely in place of the old fuse box with just a small modification to the base to screw down to the original location of the old fuse box.2 - 80 LGs bought one new

bikerphil - ordered the unit you recommended from DelCity - should be delivered next Tuesday. A little electrical work & problem solved. I'll post a pic once installed. Thanks again!1980 XS1100G (one owner-me)

SOLVED. bikerphil - you win the prize. ONLY after removing and tearing down the starter, solenoid and handlebar button did I bother to properly check the fuse block. Only glanced at it during my initial troubleshooting but should have looked a little closer. "Ignition" 10A fuse blown in dirty, damaged clips. So bike would start but shut off as soon as you quit jumping the solenoid contacts. Do I feel stupid? Bigtime. But my starter got a proper re-greasing of planetary gears and bearings and my solenoid, which you're probably not supposed to take apart, has properly re-soldered connections and cleaned up contacts.I'd like to think it was worth it nonetheless. I can now rely on it to flip the odometer this year, and, oh yeah, get me home. Thanks for everyone's input!

bikerphil - the Del City fuse block would have been great - if they had any in stock. Waiting, waiting for delivery - "Oh, it's backordered - we'll send it to you in September". Up here, the season is getting closer to over by then. Most vendors will report stock on hand before you order something. Not blaming you, bikerphil. Seems 'Ol Mr. phallus rocket has something similar - ordered 2 as another bike in the stable would benefit from this upgrade.
