    Primary chain upper guide

Wondering if any have had the experience of changing the Primary chain upper guide? Is there any way to get at it without splitting the cases.

If you're talking about the one between the cam sprockets. I got mine in and out by just unbolting the sprockets and hand lifting the chain. Had to tug with some force but it cleared and swapped without any real issue

Nope this is down on the Primary chain according to the parts fiche. I can find no pictures of it anywhere, just pictures of the primary chain itself.

Here's a pic that shows it. Looks like the cases must be split and the crank removed to access.

That picture pretty much explains that indeed the cases will need splitting Thanks very much!

If you are going that far, replace the chain as well. Parts WILL be hard to find new, and some N.L.A. I'm in the middle of a full rebuild, and one bearing I need will be here on the 28th, of next month! I could not find a chain guide, so I'm putting in a used one I have that still looks good.

                Used on on eBay.....

Removed From: 1980 Yamaha XS1100 with 10952 miles. This upper chain guide is in very good condition and shows normal signs of wear.
