  • spark plug cap replacement

    Sorry about a basic question:
I just pulled a cap off a plug wire by accident and don't know how to re-attach. I think I remember reading here that they screw on. Did a search but didn't find it. Any tips? Thanks!

Yep they do. Take the rubber boot off of it and slide it onto the wire then screw the plug cap onto the wire. Slide the boot down onto the plug cap. Done!

So that's all there is to making a solid connection on a pretty important wire??
      Thanks Mike

        technique

Also, if your wires are still long enough to reach the plugs, it's a good idea to clip off a 1/4 inch of the wire before attaching the cap. Wire ends tend to get corroded over time. Depends how they look, I say.

Amen to what Promethius said. But remember, these are high-tension leads and minor gaps will easily be jumped by the 10s of thousands of volts, after all the current has no prob jumping the spark plug gap. You just need the connection to be solid enough that the lead doesn't fall off of the plug cap.
