Ive finally got the head back this arvo and
put it all back together, problem was it was
getting 2 late, i was able to get it running but the
carbs, mixture screws are out of adjustment.
i piss the neighbours off at the best of times starting
the bike at all hrs to go for rides, so ill have to make adj tomorrow. After a blip on the throttle she revs right out and wont go down to an idle, while the carbs were off i bench sync
them and adj the float levels.

            Hey Ducky,

Believe it or not, if you had typed in www.mikesxs.com you would have found it! Another source in www.partsnmore.com ! There are more in the LINK's section!

Just with Mikes, don't tell them you're ordering for an XS11, or ask them if they know whether the part will fit an xs11, they only know xs650!!

                Hey Cafe,

Andreas usually has lots of parts, you might check with him?

You don't have what model you have in your Profile, Standard or Special. It doesn't matter regarding the valves, but does matter for other parts and discussions!

You didn't say which valves, intake or exhaust. IF you did a head job a year ago, what happened that you need more valves??

                Here's what I've found searching:

                Exhaust: 3H5-12121-00-00

Don't give up on it yet!!

It sounds like your tensioner slipped like pete's at the begining of this thread.

It's going to cost you a little more time and money, but nothing like what you've already spent. If you do the work yourself, you could fix it for just a couple of hundred more dollars.

Finding a used head in good shape would be the easiest way to go. Andreas may have one. There are also several on Ebay:

                      http://search.ebay.com/search/search...+cylinder+head

I'd replace the camchain and tensioner, too.

                      All is not lost!!

                        Definitely DON'T GIVE UP!!

                        Hey CafeRacer,

You've got one heck of a machine, and a few or even ALL bent valves are not that big a deal to fix! I bent 2 on mine during a topend rebuild just trying to set the shims, turned one cam while the other was still in the head even though the head was OFF the engine , only knew about 1, replaced it, put it all together, did a bench compression test, 0 in 1 cylinder, had to pull it back down and replace that other "slightly" bent valve, got it back together and runs just fine. I only did valve lapping, didn't have to replace any guides!

Worse case scenario....4 intake valves =$80.00, 4 Exhaust=$100.00 from CRC2's site, doing all the work yourself. Having run the engine for a season, I don't think you could reuse the head gasket, but perhaps some other more experienced engine rebuilders could chime in on whether you could reuse it!?

You'll want to check the cam chain tensioner to see if it's run out of it's adjustment range? IF so..then you might need to replace the cam chain, not sure if you did that when you did your previous head job? If it's new, then your cam chain tensioner just probably has some burrs on the flat locking surface of the tensioner rod, a little filing should smooth it out so that it will slide and lock into proper place the FIRST TIME!! Just check to make sure your locking bolt hasn't stripped out the aluminum threads of the tensioner housing! YOU CAN DO IT!!

I would bet a doughnut that the tensioner threads are stripped (like TC indicated it might). You think it is OK and it slipps just enough to keep it in a loose position. Been there/done that and so has Dave Hogue. You can helicoil those threads and make the tensioner better than new.

Be advised that stock rings are not available, unless your machine shop is able to fit/modify some rings from an other manufacturer.
