Winter project FINALY started

    Life is still getting in the way! I did get most of the parts cleaned, and have now run the thread chaser through ALL the case threads. I had to order one for the M10X1.25 head studs, but I now have it. I did just get off the phone with ARP in Venura, CA. They build race spec head bolts and studs. I gave them the length and number needed for one engine, and should have a quote in a week or two. I may order for three engines, as I do have a second, running bike. That would give me a "spare" set of studs that I could send out to anyone wanting the safety of higher strength studs.
    I wanted to go this way as I may turbo or supercharge the engine later.

      Well, lower case is almost done. I need to find seals to be able to move forward, so I'll be making calls in the morning. The transmission from the original engine was total trash, thanks to the P.O. I did buy a spare trans, plus other parts a few years back when they were still easy to find, so it's going to be OK.
      I'll post a pic once I've got everything needed in the lower case. And no, still no work from ARP. I know they DID make a stud kit about 15 years ago...

            I'm not really interested in how much laborers make in different countries. Now hooker's on the other hand, well that's a different story!

              I'll be ordering from partzilla once I have all the seal numbers I need. I'm also going to try and get a main drive chain, as I don't know how bad/worn the one I have is.

                Well, no chain from Partzilla. I did spend about $200 on bits and seals, though. If someone has a line on the main drive chain, please let me know.

                          Now THAT IS A CLEAN ENGINE!! If it runs as powerful as Special Ed's monster engine was it will be a beast,,,,good work Ray,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Mike in San DIego and Pa.

                            Mike, My current "ride" has an engine like Ed's did. This engine should be about 20HP more, if I can get what I would like for the build. Without, it will still be very fast. 1197 kit is going in '78 cams, FI, and a turbo if I can find the one I would like to put on. I will be building the exhaust system, so quick no matter if it's just "stock" carbs or all out.

                              Howdy Ray,,,,as these bikes get older,,,I hope you can document the process of adding F.Injection to the bikes, it would be a saviour for many an xs,xj. I remember way back some members were experimenting with it, but I never saw an easy, economical way to do it. So,,,,please fill us in with details when the process, pics happen. With F.I. these bikes would seem almost modern,,,,we have the power, great looks, add the F.I. and most will outlast us............have fun...Mike in S.Diego and Pa.
