    Me again ! Today’s issue seems to be lack of charging. Brandy new battery not charging. Even at about 2k only getting a decreasing voltage starting at 11.9 and declining
    you guys have seen it all so I’m hoping for more guidance as my quest to enjoy this now great running machine

    Check ALL grounds first. If it's still not charging, check the voltage into the reg/rec. Set the DVM to AC volts, and verify about 15 to 18V AC. If that is good, you probably need a new reg/rec. I would say go to http://www.oregonmotorcycleparts.com/VRREM.html The VRREM-3 is what you need to fix it. I have one on my bike now, and had one on my standard that I sold about six years ago. They work VERY well, and are easy to install.

      First thing that comes to mind is to clean the alternator connector behind the fuse panel. It could be corroded or even melted.

        Not to say you don't have a problem, but I think the RPM has to be above 2500 for charging. At lower RPMs, the battery is draining.

          Ill check all of the above and report back.
          Connections behind fuse panel are clean and good. Had a similar problem on my sons gold wing and it was a melted connector.

            An easy thing to check is your magnetic field produced when the key is on. Take something like an iron nail and check for magnetic attraction on the right side cover of the alternator.

                        So, what was the ultimate fix? Did you buy a replacement reg/rect.? If so what did you purchase?

                          I performed the volt checks outlined in the manual, it failed the second part of the test. I checked for magnetic field suggested in and above post and had field. Replaced the reg/rec and now have 13.8 at approx 2K
                          where I didnt before.
