    Weird Harold... I love it.. getting closer now, current forks have the air valves mounted on top and at a 45 degree angle as the parts diagram displays. other than "right fork outer tube" appears to be without the "weird Harold" . makes me wonder if it was just the one "outer tube" [right] was replaced from the say xj650.       What would really help to identity would be to measure with a caliper the diameter of the upper stanchion tube(s), XS11 tubes should be 37MM.

        37mm definitely confirmed with brandy new digital calipers. New clue with brake pads that were up front are different style that was on rear (left pads)

          37MM would be 1100 stanchions. The rear caliper is supposed to be different than the front, with the non tapered normal type pads.

          Still a mystery why the right side has no caliper casting.
