The handle bar switch goes back to a neutral position with some spring mechanism.

Does it self cancel? Or manual only?

speedlimit85, it is a conventional manual system. No self cancel. No current sensing to indicate a burnt out bulb. It is now an old fashioned flasher system. I rode all day yesterday and the signals worked great. My bike now has no headlight latching relay, no auto turn signal module, and no reserving lighting module. Simple, manual, and stone dead reliable.
