    Cylinder head compatibility

Is the 3H5 cylinder head compatible with a 2H7 motor? The cylimder head I ordered comes with cams, valves, and shims already installed.

No, but that's the short answer. Need more info to elaborate.
1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors )
    1979 XS1100SF (stock-euro mods planned)
    1984 XV700L Virago (to be hot-modded)
    1983 XJ750MK Midnight Maxim (semi-restored DD)
    1977 XS650D ( patiently awaiting resto)

Sometimes it takes a whole tank of gas before you can think straight.

No, don't do it, the compression will suck unless you change the pistons too, if it was the other way around then yes.
        2H7 (79) owned since '89
        3H3 owned since '06

Well here is what I'm dealing with.

          1. 3H5 motor with a destroyed piston and rod as well as a useless the cylinder head.

          2. A 3H5 cylinder head on the way via ebay with valves intact

          3. A 2H7 motor with all good pistons but no cylinder head

So I'm trying to figure the best way to get a complete motor. If the 3H5 motor will not play well with the 2H7 cylinder head then do I have to split the case to replace the rod that holds the piston?

It will be fine. Just not as much compression. I run a 81 head on my 78 runs fine.

I'm curious what the long answer is. If it is just compression loss I am going to go for it. Is there something else i should be aware of?

Thank you e30 gangsta. I was startimg to feel hopeless
