Having recently had the same dilemma that you are describing, here’s my assessment of your situation and what I found.

The floats were shutting off the valves as they are supposed to, but that won’t stop the fuel flow if it is leaking at the inlet tees. Only shutting off the petcocks will stop that.

Good luck, I hope this helps you. I’ll be curious to know what you find.
Good to hear you sorted that out! I've had the same thing happen and forgot about it, it seems that leaking tees can sometimes be fixed by soaking the tee in some gas. Apparently the coating swells up a bit and if the carbs have set awhile they probably dried out and shrank. It worked in my case.

One would think that if there is gas leaking, the bowls are overfilling because the float valves are not shutting off.
But you have proven that the float valves are closing. So that’s not your problem. Time to move on from there.

You had the carbs separated to replace #2.

As it was in my case, You may have scratched or nicked or maybe even cracked the fuel inlet Tee. It is hard to see where the leaking gas is coming from with the carbs on the bike, because the Tees are kind of buried.

It wasn’t until I filled them while off of the bike that I could see gas leaking round the Tees. And a lot of it too, even though I couldn’t see anything wrong with the TEE.

thanks but ive got the carbs off and the gas is comming out the back of the carb. its even spraying out one of the three holes in the back of carb, i think its the over flow from the maine jet.

one more thing that I would like to add... The tees didn't leak while the bowls were filling. It wasn't until the float valves closed that the pressure around the tees caused leakage.

You COULD try putting an oring or two on each side of the tee to help, I've heard that does work. Don't get the ones from the hardware store, they won't stand up to being in contact with gasoline. I've had luck going to O'Reilly's for orings, they often have them available behind the counter to buy one at a time for fuel injection systems.

Roger, good suggestions already. Here is another from a thread from the past. There are replacement tees available if you don't want to try to fix yours. They are readily available on ebay. For the earlier carbs you need two differet types as Marty points out in this thread.

I have never owned a standard so I personally only know from reading other folks comments. Disclaimer out of the way. I asked for pictures of the carbs to verify what you are working with but will assume that you simply have an early set of carbs that have had the floats changed to later models. Have you checked the petcocks? Have they been rebuilt? The reason I am asking is because from my understanding the vaccuum is built into the petcocks. If that is failing it could be part of the reason the carbs are flooding. Someone more knowledgeable about the standards may chime in to correct me or add to the discussion.

When you're filling the carbs, tap on the #2 carb bowl and see if the problem persists. Is the ring gasket on the float valve in good condition?
ive got the carbs separated i ran gas to the carb when it started running over i taped on the bowl and it stopped so the float is sticking someway. i haven't fixed it yet but i think that is the problem.

Glad you found the problem. Was about all that was left. Did you use new float pins when you installed the floats? I know you stated that you have already checked the gaskets for overlap so it is either the pin, warped or crud build up or the needle valve assembly. If it is the only carb flooding I would be looking at removing the float and pin and cleaning the channel in the float with a small drill bit and some carb cleaner. Hope you get it worked out. Sounds like you are very close now.

earlier i swapped the float, pin, and bowl from a good working #1 carb to # 2 carb still ran over, # 1 ok, don't make no since.

                                Hi Roger,
I gotta ask if you are working on an early set of carbs with 4 tees and if so are you connecting the fuel feed to the lower tees?
