  • Question- rebore or find new cylinders and pistons

    Hello all,
have a 1980 xs110sg that the previous owner must of put the wrong plugs in and ruined the pistons. Also, some water must have gotten in and there is some rust in 2 & 3 so needs to get bored out. My question is, being oversized pistons are next to impossible to find, or have to go after market. Would you just go with the wiseco 74.00mm BB kit or go after market oversized. I took them in to get measured and he said I could probably get away with 10 thou over to clean them up.

so, just wondering on options. I’d rather not over bore to 74.00 if I don’t have to but wiseco probably isn’t going anywhere if I needed rings down the road. Just looking at options. Would you just look for new jugs, and stock pistons and risk them not being any good or just bore it and move on.

doesn’t seem to be much options for oversized aftermarket out there.

I did check some salvage places around the area but not much there on these. All kept outside so probably seized

Welcome Guy, you may want to give our resident used parts supplier a call or PM for a good set of jugs or maybe the whole shebang, he is very reasonable.

His number and details are in the following link: https://xs11.club/forum/buy-sell-tra...r-sale-andreas
1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors )
    1979 XS1100SF (stock-euro mods planned)
    1984 XV700L Virago (to be hot-modded)
    1983 XJ750MK Midnight Maxim (semi-restored DD)
    1977 XS650D ( patiently awaiting resto)

Sometimes it takes a whole tank of gas before you can think straight.

I spoke with him last week. He didn’t have any options but did say to check back next month.

Your options will be limited by what you can find. You can watch ebay for pistons & jugs?

yah, not a lot of options for sure. I’ve been watching but not sure I’d trust a these parts to order off eBay and be within spec. There is a couple option on oversized I’ve found. Place out of Germany and that place out of Japan.

This will probably sound a bit ignorant but can you go with 10 over rings on the pistons you already have?

These aren't my words, I just arrange them

I saw those. Been doing some research on them. Mixed reviews. I guess you’ll get that with any part though.

also this place. They also do a .25 over kit an up to the big bore.

i searched the site though and didn’t see any that run them.

Wiseco still makes kits, but they cost! Just did a search and found this:https://powersports.wiseco.com/top-e...35&model=34289 . I have one set that will go into my '78, and I have a set missing one set of rings. They were the "gold standard" for years.

XS1100 SF Bob Jones worked on it!

yes, they are very expensive. I do worry about taking that much off the sleeve though. I know a lot have no issue running them over boring that much. With our dollar currently it makes for a tough choice.

I would not hesitate to use these. I've seen some XS1100s running them. I run their rings in my XS650.
