Have you checked the adjustment of the cam chain ?
    Here's a link with tips:

    https://xs11.club/forum/maintenance/...cam-chain-tips
1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors )
    1979 XS1100SF (stock-euro mods planned)
    1984 XV700L Virago (to be hot-modded)
    1983 XJ750MK Midnight Maxim (semi-restored DD)
    1977 XS650D ( patiently awaiting resto)

Sometimes it takes a whole tank of gas before you can think straight.

Howdy Adolph,,,,,also change the oil if its sat for so long, good chance there is gas in it and it thins down the oil A LOT. Like Schming said adjust the cam chain,,,front of engine, 5 minute procedure,,,,,,get back on results,,,,Mike in Sun Diego

Installed a manual cam chain adjuster and never looked back. Sounded like somebody dumped a bag of marbles into the crankcase. Original cam chain adjuster can back off when downshifting and create dangerous looseness. Something to consider. Also may contribute to noises - carb synchronization?

The original CCT is a manual adjust... Did you mean ACCT is what you installed?

BTW, ZRX carbs have the same spacing as the XS11... http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35462

Good to verify adjustment. But it never was the quietest on mine. I have not replaced the original. Jk

I would definitely check for excessive wear on the chain first. If still within specs ... get and ACCT and install. Won't have to worry about manual adjustments.

Bonz - full manual adjuster - like bikerphil posted. Installation of that and replacing the cam chain made for a nice quiet, happy motor. Important to adjust it properly - overtight can be an issue, too.

You may need the shorter bolts from the raptor, but I'm not sure. Look at the boss for the bolts on both, and if the ACCT boss isn't as tall as the old one, buy 5mm shorter allens for it. I usually replace everything with SS from Ace Hardware.

Gotcha. The confusion came because guys that have been around here a long time typically swap in an automatic cam chain tensioner from a vision or virago or something similar. So when you say you installed a manual cam chain tensioner that typically is counter to what guys have done over the years.

When I did my ACCT mods to a couple XS's (can't recall if Vision, Virago or Raptor ACCT) I had to elongate one of the holes just a tad on one of the ACCT's and I believe I used different bolts that came with the other ACCT as per what DiverRay said.

I can't really say anything about a raptor acct. I have always used the old Vmax tensioners. They bolt right on without any modification necessary. Maybe someone else can comment on the raptor type.
