.. what position are your needle jets in? the clip should be in the middle grove and what color are your plugs? clean or put in a new set of plugs and go for a ride, try to keep your rpms at around where your problem exists for about a mile then pull the plugs to see if they're to dark or to light.. more than likely they will be too dark.. also try to pay attention to where in the rpms your problem starts and where it ends and if your problem happens every time and at the same time, and does it run like crap after idle and pop then suddenly come on like a freight train and does it idle nice on all four cylinders?..
.. this will be helpful in determining if your problem is with the carbs/jetting or the ignition

      Hey Gotsm,

Yes, you should have removed your E-tubes when you removed your mains. There are many small orifices that can get clogged, and you can only see and verify that you've gotten them cleared by removing them. They come out thru the TOP of the carb, gently pushing or tapping them out once you've removed the MAIN jet and Washer! THere is a groove and notch there, be careful!

Secondly, the 142.5's are actually 2 sizes larger than suggested for STOCK setup....they go in 2.5 increments, 137.5, 140, 142.5!!

It's good that you were able to remove the Pilot jets to verify that they have 4 small ports in their side. But as has been stated, you can't use that to determine their true size. They are not that expensive, getting a new set can give you piece of mind!?
