  • Clutch cable????

So while movin my new 1984 XJ100, I may have broken a cable off the back of the clutch area of the handle bar. It's not the actual clutch cable, but what I'm guessing is perhaps a clutch sensor or something?

    Any thoughts?

Yes, that is a switch. Its there so you cant start the motor in gear without the clutch pulled in.
A good thing, till you breake it.....

        ground

twist both wires together and attatch to ground. the bike will run. BUT REMEMBER IT WILL START IN GEAR!!!!!!!SO always pull in the clutch when starting i think it's a good habbit anyway...

So this won't prevent the bike from running will it?

            mine runs

it worked on my bike. I've had it like this for about 3 years now. i got the xj when switch went away i took the two wires that go to it bared the ends and wrapped them around the air fill cap on my front forks. been running ever since.Again use xstreme caution,if the bike is in gear it will be able to start AND REAP HAVOIC,IF your new to biking just replace the switch....andrea has one to get rid of..MUCH SAFER TO GO THAT ROUTE...

              sorry

sorry i think i miss under stood you. Yes if that switch is munked up your bike will NOT run. It is a saftey switch so your bike will not start without the clutch being pulled in.

                  not sure

i think if that switch is hooked up it has to be pulled in to start the bike. someone correct me if i'm wrong here.

Yes, it will start if that switch dont work, but only in neutral, since you dont have to touch the clutch then.

Hey, chevy, saw your new van someplace in here, nice Maybe i should cut a little in my beauville
