  • Me and my XS11

Took the delivery of my '82 XS11 this past Tuesday. Can't wait to ride her. She still needs little TLC, but little time and she will be restored.

Tried to put a picture here, but nothing works.

Nice ride. Looks very nice, how many miles? Do you have any history on the bike?

Very interesting chrome trim piece on the front fender! I've never seen one of those on an XS.....

This is an XJ. The LAST XS for USA was made in 1981

Ah yes, Rover, that is correct. Let me rephrase:

I've got one of those "fender crash bars" on my '81H dresser. It probably stiffens the front forks a little, but not like the T-Kat on my '80G.

I thought it was an XJ, the registration states it is an XS. She has 10,863 miles. Not too much history on her. She has new back brake, fuel lines and a carb job.

                  Thanks for comments,

                    'definitely an XJ ...

                    Hi Twoline,
                    I've got an '82 XJ.
I recognize classic visual features of the XJ1100:
The adjustable handlebars, curved wheel spokes, the "Maxim" on the side cover and the "YICS" on the left- and right-side crankcase covers.
                    RLMcD
                    XJ1100J Maxim (Arlington)
                    Ruby Red
                    XS1100E (no name yet)
                    Macho Maroon

                      also

i also noticed the longer back bar like mine. Most were just above seat height.

While we're on the subject, the 'fin' detail on the cam covers is also different on the XJ. On the XJ, the fins wrap down on the sides. On the XS, they only go across the top of the cover.

The 81 SH has the same valve covers as the XJ. At least mine and btdtdan's SH have the same type as the XJ, I don't know about all of them.

Hmm, interesting. The cover on my SH is the same as on my H, where the fins only run along the top.

I wonder if they changed to the XJ style mid way through the SH model run?

Hey, Twoline, I was also wondering. Just above where the tank emblem would mount and on top of the fender, there looks to be something other than black in the paint. Is those just reflections, or is there something trick in there?

sorry for the delay. the two emblems are part of a custom paint job on the tank and the front fender. the one on the tank looks like part of a heart with flames on it and the same on the fender.
