Know I'm a kind of late on this thread but I've been falling off my chair reading it LOL . About the wheelie thing...second day I owned my SF I accidently pulled a second gear wheelie while (Why do Brits say whilst?) accelerating away from an intersection after making a left turn. I would imagine that it'd be pretty easy from a standing start in first but I don't like to abuse old machinery. Were I an 18-year-old instead of an old fart I'd be doing it all the time!

.. thats funny because i want to move up to tennesee.. i have to travel pretty far to find any corners around here.. brooksville is probly the best we got down here and thats 60 miles up the interstate from me
.. my uncle owns a camp ground near robbinsville nc, just over the mountain from noxville, some were over there sounds good
.. i went up to visit him in 99, i took one of my first big black 11s back and forth across the deals gap about 20 times in about an hours time, i just about rubbed holes through the bottom of my mufflers .. man that was fun, every where else seemed real streight after that

c'mon, it's obvous that it's called an XS11, or ELEVEN, or however else you want to spell it because it's an 1100cc motor.

as far as drag-time goes, i read somewhere once in an old yamaha publication of some sort that my 81sh did an 11.95 fresh from the factory, with top speed of 111. i paid the $20 to race on the dyno in front of the full-throttle saloon ("worlds largest biker bar") in sturgis last year. they give you 3 runs. first one sucked. second one was best of the 3. i was on track for a killer time on the 3rd run but friggin missed 4th gear. anyway, i wasn't too upset with my 12-flat and top speed of 112, considering it's a 23 yr. old daily driver with no major adjustments. only things that are different would be the 4 into 1, pod filters, and 130 mains instead of the stock 120's. i could have probably got her under 12 secs. if i hadn't used the clutch, but all my gears still work to this day (even 2nd) and i didn't want to jeopardize that too much.

sometimes you gotta bring back an old thread when guys like me don't have time to visit the forum regularly.

                  GNEPIG

I guess there are some twisties or corners here, but sometimes I miss the long summers down there, maybe not that much longer than here.

But I have fond memories of that place, but then I have alot of good memories of Sturgis too, thats where I graduated high school, alot of mountains and corners up there too.

oh yes! us locals in the black hills are very fortunate. hundreds of thousands of bikers come here every year just to drive on our hi-ways. a lot of em are not even rally-goers cuz it gets so crowded. they come just before or just after all of the madness, buy thier t-shirts, enjoy the hiways, and get out of dodge.

                      Yeah, its nice up there..

My first vehicle to drive on the road was a Kaw 125 enduro.

I remember coming into Deadwood on that first down grade 6 or 7% grade, in pouring rain, bumber-to-bumper traffic, and on one knob on both dirt tires-very scarey!

                        Funny thread !

My brother and I, back in '90, had matching V65 s- my sabre and his magna. He had been adapting different bags to his Magna so we could ride farther out- and I had made my own luggage rack and used an army duffle bag for my "backrest" LOL- Hondaline had already discontinued the hard bags for both our bikes- then, my brother ran across a full dress XS 1100 for 1000 bucks and snatched it up. We rode togethe ALOT- usually from Anchorage to Homer- a quaint little drinking town with a fishing problem- every weekend in the summer, rain or shine.

The XS wasn't as brutal as our V65s- but we both rode it and thought it was great. And those side bags would hold about 200 pounds of filleted halibut if really stuffed in there right! LOL

I have found the wheelie thing a bit wierd- It is hard to wheelie either of the V65s, but really hard on the sabre- you have to have a technique that is similar to wheely-ing a full dress gold wing LOL- kinda of a rock back and shift thing at the same time.

But I could stand up the XS any time I wanted it seems. Same with the Z1 900 B I have now- but the gearing makes sense for that one.

Oh well, XS 11, makes sense to me- and my wife likes all my big toys I suppose LOL
