Well I got 80,000 on my XS 1100 but the wife has a Special with only 8,000 They both run great

I have 52000 on my 79 SF, 2nd gear was replced at 10k but it was wrecked hard and the previous owner before me (my dad) put about 30k on the bike, very hard miles so the bike has been tested well. 1st gear is starting to have some issues, smokes for a few secs when first started up after sitting for periods, cam chain replaced about 10k ago and vavles shimmed then. Other than that still gets abused hard.

My first Eleven I bought new in '78, was sold in '80 to a San Jose, Ca Police officer with 32,000 and no problems. The current '79 had 35000 when I got it in December. It has 46000 on the odo, and needs 2nd gear fix!

You also have to remember that those of us that live "way up north", only get about 6 months of possible riding time a year and when you factor in the rainy days, it is hard to put more than 4 or 5 thousand miles a year on a bike. I ride mine as often as possible and get about 3,000 miles a year. That is actually way above average around here. I would bet that the average is around 1,000 - 1,500. It is very common to find early 80's bikes with 30,000 miles. Remember too, though, that sitting for 6 straight months every year for 25 years takes it's toll on machinery.

Its likely my bike has 166,000 kms (odometer turned over). I've only put 33'000kms myself.

Hello, I'm Mark and just kinda stumbled on to this site while looking at a tire changing web-site. My 1979 XS 11 has 179,543 miles with No internal engine or tranny repairs. My father bought it new and I have had it since his passing 2 years ago. It does have the Lockhart oil cooler and to my knoledge has had nothing but Mobil 1 in the crankcase. It still runs very strong with no smoking or oil burning. The valves have always been adjusted on regular maintance service along with shaft oil changes. She don't look like a show winner but I still ride it at least once a week during the riding season.

Got 45,000 on an '80 and yeah, it did sit in the garage for a while right after I got married..... restored over the winter and now riding it most every day...(still married btw but the better half finally decided she would give riding a try....she loves it!). No issues but think I may be about ready for a new cam chain and valve adjust.

Unbeeleevable! Actually not too unbelievable. I read a thread as the google newsgroups where some guy had an XS11 with 166,000 original miles. He said it still ran strong but it used a little oil between changes.

48,000 on Peppylephew, it uses oil between changes.

11,800 is what Peppyledeux has and I did the 2nd gear fix.

I have 63,596 miles on my '80-G, of which I've put about 20,000 miles on her since my purchase in '98. She uses/leaks/seeps a little oil between oil changes. So far, no cam chain replacement.

Only regular maintinence and carb rebuilds, its a beast.

I use the factory oil, the dealer does it so I dont know.
