  • #3 n #4 better with prime

I was out on a short cruise when my xs lost half power (felt like it was running on 1 cylinder) and had to ride the clutch to limp it home. Well it sat for a couple days and I called the guy I bought it from to ask him if he had similar problems. He said sometimes the float would stick in #2 carb. So without hesitating I pulled off the carbs (not the easyest airbox assy.) and took them to the dealer in town. They did sell me a needle and seat , reworked and bench flowed them said they would work great. And they did when I fired the bike up in the parking lot. So I shut 'er down, drove across town, and put my bike back together again. Upon firing her back up the start button would not work so I jumped the selonoid and it ran (very pourly) but only on #1 and 2 . Cylinders #3 and 4 were not fired (a dummy test of spitting on each headder tube is the test I used) next I pulled a plug from #4 to test for spark . It was a very cold spark when I started the bike again .............Now my question is this can half a coil go bad ? Seeing how #3 and #4 are on two different coils . Or do Ineed to look for another problem ? Also the starter button is back to normal

Half a coil can't go bad. Standard or special? It still sounds like fuel delivery, bad petcock? Try it on prime.

I thaught that the coils go 1 and 4, 2 and 3.... at least mine were labeled like that way...

Anyone knows sth bout that... for a 78?

        Yer right; left coil works 1 & 4 >> right coil works 2 & 3 .

Are you sure that is an advance hose and not a petcock control vac line. If the vac hose to you petcock is bad, no fuel will come out, fix the line then try bike on run again....do you have a standard or special?
