    Stupid cover!

    So I got this norton bike cover with the "heat proof" bottom section. Well, to make a long story short, after only a minute or two of running from bone cold, I put the cover on and the "heat proof" part melted on the #4 header and the muffler.

    So, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to clean the plastic off my chrome header?

    Big chunks? Can it be froze with an ice cube and "fingernailed" off?
    WD40?
    Heat with a cigarette lighter and wipe away?
    I haven't a clue, but would like one.
    (Was wiping up some oil... and brushed against a hot pipe with an old towel. Did the same thing)

      I would try acetone. It eats plastics (and paint) for lunch. Problem is, it evaporates very quickly, so you might have to soak a rag and hold it on for a while before rubbing. VERY flammable stuff! If that does not work, try paint stripper. I have to assume you have chrome headers....

        MEK should clean it off quickly. Avoid the fumes and don't get it on your skin.

            Methyl Ethyl Ketone. or just Ketone. Nasty stuff, don't inhale it or you'll forget you're name

            Also known as "Cancer in a bottle". Dissolves almost anything except metal.

            I have seen it at some Home Depot stores in the paint dept.

              Wait with cleaning till after a while the plastic on the surface is totally burned up and use a metal sponge to whipe it easy away.

                I do not know if it is available with your self-cleaning ovens over there
                But I was told oven cleaning spray from your kitchen works pretty good.
                XS1100 and XS650- what do you need more?

                  I'd be careful with oven cleaner. I had a friend with a Ninja; she got some plastic on her aftermarket pipes. She then tried the oven cleaner trick and WHAMO! No more finish on her exhaust. :S

                    Oven cleaner works quick... too quick. It splattered when sprayed and a drop landed on my polished aluminum.. marred it in about a second!
                    Next time, I'll spray the whole can into an old frying pan, and then dip in a brush and paint it where wanted.
