I had an 81XS11H (Venturer) this was the only model and year that came with bags, fairing etc from the yamaha factory. Basically this bike...

Is this the bike you have?

Yes, I believe this is it.

In the guy's garage the big looks bigger and longer than what's in the picture.

Well, I have to agree, this pict always did make the bike look a little dwarfed to me. Must have something to do with the background.

Well, if this is what you have, and its in good shape, that is a great bike. Not a whole lot of the "Venturer 1100s" around anymore.

Can it be a Venturer even though the side covers read XS 11?

I know the bike has not been pieced together or parts swapped. The seller is the original owner.

"Venturer" was just the name given to the bike when it was in development at Yamaha. The title was never printed on the bike itself. Officially it is a 1981 "XS Eleven H".

The following year Yamaha droped the XS11 standard line and introduced the first "Venture 1200" to compete with Honda GoldWing 1200's up-n-coming popularity.

In lieu of the XS11 special, Yamaha introduced the XJ1100 Maxim to keep the so called 'big cruiser' line alive.

I thought the Venturer came with a larger gas tank.

Not true? Just the same as a 81 h? (Which I just got, but did not think the tank was big enough for 6.3 gallons)
I've been in more than one Hemisphere, and I wrote a book to help you do it too (or just prepare better for that week long road trip). Going Small, not just for the little guys.

                    tokarz33

You'll have to upload the pics to a server. Maybe your ISP provides you with a certain amount of space you can upload them to.

There are other services like snapfish you can link to.

If you have too much trouble e-mail the pics to me. I'm jumpin up and down to see 'em anyway. Then I'll upload them to my space and post them for ya.
