Just wire wheeled some rust from underneath the front fender and from inside the headlight bucket. Wondering what people would recommend protecting these surfaces with, if anything. Maybe a rust inhibiting paint? Hope I get all the headlight bucket wires connected correctly. Why the heck are there so many inside there?

Hey there Laxdad,
I found some of that rust converting paint at the local auto store, it turns rust into black primer and seals the surface. After that, for the fender I also used some rubber undercoating spray, the kind for under the car to further protect the inside finish from road debris, salts, etc.! That's what I did!

I have enjoyed great success with a PERMATEX product known as EXTEND. I last sourced it at ACE HARDWARE.
Among other places, I have treated inside the headlight bucket, instrument cans, etc. You can paint over it. If you don't paint, it simply turns the rust into a hard, black finish.Marty (in Mississippi)
