  • headlight bucket, fender rust

Just wire wheeled some rust from underneath the front fender and from inside the headlight bucket. Wondering what people would recommend protecting these surfaces with, if anything. Maybe a rust inhibiting paint? Hope I get all the headlight bucket wires connected correctly. Why the heck are there so many inside there?

    Hey there Laxdad,

I found some of that rust converting paint at the local auto store, it turns rust into black primer and seals the surface. After that, for the fender I also used some rubber undercoating spray, the kind for under the car to further protect the inside finish from road debris, salts, etc.! That's what I did!

I have enjoyed great success with a PERMATEX product known as EXTEND. I last sourced it at ACE HARDWARE.

Among other places, I have treated inside the headlight bucket, instrument cans, etc. You can paint over it. If you don't paint, it simply turns the rust into a hard, black finish.

I just found the bottle. It's PERMATEX RUST TREATMENT RT-8A. It's the best rust treatment product I've ever tried.
