    KONG LIVES!!!

Saved another mighty XS11 from the junk heap. When I changed oil I almost didn't get the filter bolt out...WHEWWWWW! I was sweating it.

Last night when I changed the plugs I nearly puked blood. When I pulled the number two sparker I noticed there was a threaded sleeve around the plug. I guess somebody in the past stripped it ...re-threaded the hole and screwed a threaded sleeve back in it. Dontcha hate it when that happens?

Fired it up and tokk it around the block. Tranny seemed fine...clutch too. Rear brake is sticking but front is ok. However there is a little "thrashing" noise coming from the left front crank cover. I guess the ignition system is behind that door? The noise is not very noticeable but defintely there. Any thoughts?

Thanks again guys for all the good help and pointers. I try and get some pics posted of KING KONG when I get him cleaned up.

Thrashing noise? Make sure the vacuum line for the vacuum advance is hooked up to the correct port (a port actually ON the #2 carb, NOT on the boot nipple between the carb and the engine)

Hook the vacuum up there and the advance mechanisim clatters (bike won't run right either).

      Yes it's hooked up right.

After I rode Kong for about 10-12 miles the noise subsided. This bike hasn't been ridden since 1985. No tellin' what needed a little oil on it. Hope to heaven it wasn't a main.

        Thrashing behind door #1

You might want to have a look at that. When I was trying mine out, we noticed a similar noise. After I got it, my nephew was "test riding" and ended up pushing it back with a quarter sized hole in the ignition cover. The bolt that holds the timing adjustment had come loose and was "ejected" through the cover. luckily we re-did the timing, found another bolt and cover and no problems. We felt lucky the damage was not worse. Good luck.

Well I pulled the ignition cover and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. As a matter of fact the "innerards" looked new.

          Thanks
