  • My Electrical problems last month

I got a number of emails asking so i wanted to update those that I missed regarding my woes of electircal porportions.

This is all in time for Deuce next weeekend, Ill be arriving Sat, and have to head home Sunday evening...
after all UPS needs me to deliver all those xs parts from member to member...

I'm back on the road!!! It ended up that they had spliced an "extra hot
wire" coming off the accessory side of the ign switch, prior to the fuse,
and it wasn't used in the spagetti bucket, but was a male bullet connector
    (not even taped)...
apparently it shorted to ground, and caused enough of a power draw to
hasten the corrosion in the switch connections at the white plug with the
spade connectors... cutting off all power..

I pulled that apart cleaning the connectors (unaware of the male bullet
sitting in there welding itself)... and got power...
as i got the bike running, all of a sudden it started smoking...
(welding does that u know), and so i shut off the ign switch, and
observed smoke from the side cover as well... he had also when bypassing
the fuse panel, decided no fuse was necessary on the 30 amp circut so he
put a splice of 18 ga wire in it.. well - that acted as a fusable link and
    literally melted.. stopping further damage.

I found and fixed the bullet connector that was shorted, and put an in line
30 amp fuse and holder in the ign circut line, and recleaned all the
    connections..
including reconnecting the other in line fuses he had put in..

    The results,
Better power to everything, brighter lights, signals, indicator
    lights, faster starter, NO SMOKE...

I tell you, even some of his splices were corroded.. even the ones he
soldered... so i nipped of a bit more, and respliced, still got a few
connectors to go, but i tell you.. it is nice being back on the road.

jeff... best bet is to go to West Marine, or some other boating supply house and get Anchor brand marine heat shrink. It has a sealant inside of it. I use the stuff every day at work and have yet to ever have a problem with it.... ok off to work on the new 650 again...
