I have a KZ 650 in the backyard. I wonder if the wheel would fit without the brake components....

Heres a good question then. Most of the users on this site are very smart regarding bikes. How much faster would my bike go if it were 30lbs lighter?

That would be pretty hard to calculate exactly. It could have very little impact on top speed, but lower your E.T..

As a first assumption, I would figure out what percentage the weight removed is to the total.

Then calculate how much horse power it takes to achieve your current E.T. and top speed.

Since dropping weight is like increasing H.P. Increase your H.P. number by the percentage from the weight loss calculations and compute a new theoretical E.T. and top speed.

There are WEB sites that can provide you with these formulas.

There are a million reasons why this would not tell the true story, but it could be fun to check out.

          XS drag racer

those are some good numbers XS, i can't get that speed out of mine.@yrs ago stuck in the 99 mph range, rejetted now 102 consistant. As for being consistant on a bike for get it unless your running a box air shifter etc, etc. It's like all on you to keep it consistant shift eXSactly the same every run take off eXSactly the same you know the drill...My times jump from 13.10-13.45,i've tried and thats as close as i get.

What elevation are you running at? Ours here averages out about 5000 ft plus. Also, I do pull off the mufflers to run, it runs about .50 slower with the mufflers on it.....

There are several front wheels that are lighter than the stock ones that will work and removing one rotor and caliper is the ticket.NHRA will not allow you to race with no front brake.Stopping one at over a hundred mph with only the rear brake is diffulcult at best. The wheels on an XS are both heavy mothers and changing them to something lighter is one of the best performance improvements you can make.Check out the wheels on a 80-82 Honda 900 custom.Same size, shaft drive, tubeless type, a bunch lighter. The back one requires a little fiddling but it's no big deal.

A tenth quicker and maybe 2 mph depending on you riding position from third gear on.

                  elevation

i'm not that smart dragracer,i'm not sure what the elevation is here. I live in illinois about 2 miles from wisconsin border. if that helps you.No doubt making bike lighter will free up horses but thats not the question you asked about consistancie, faster not always makes consistance. just makes you faster ...lol,you have to have a ritual you follow to a tee. do the same thing EVERY time that will help with dialing in.I seem to win the first round all the time but by round two i'm up against the guys running delay boxes and electronics,so i go out in the second round almost always. Damn those computers

Don't they have a street stock class for bikes where you race? That almost doesn't seem fair to the stockers to have to go up against those guys that have the electronics.

Elevation plays a huge factor. Also I know that losing weight off the bike helps it go faster, but it does have some impact on consistency. If you can cover the first 60' very quickly and keep the 60' time consistent, then the odds are already in your favor. I raced the entire season last year, first season on a bike. I did win one event (It was even listed in the back, obscure pages of National Dragster..LOL). But the final round was just Myself, and a CBR Honda. All those delay boxes and stuff seem to do is create problems and possible mis-shifts...... I just try and run quicker than my dial, then watch them coming at me doing 130 mphs in my mirror and I try and let off the gas right at the line. It doesnt always work, but it did that night I won......It so damn fun!!!
